[VIDEO] 325d lci timing chain

Hello everyone,

Save me from overthinking or if I rather should take action, here is a video of my diesel running and in the end rev to 2k rpm. Do you hear anything wrong meaning timing chain or does it all sound ok?

Appreciated!

Nothing wrong with that, that I can hear. If the chains or tensioners are starting to go, it'll make a noise like shaking a maraca between 1000-2000rpm. You'll probably need to hold it at ~1500rpm to hear it. Search on YouTube for N47 timing chains to hear how bad they can get.

My partner's N47 was making the maraca noise at 100000mi when I replaced the chains and tensioners. There was very little wear on the plastic parts of the tensioners and guide rails, and no visible damage to either chain - one chain did seem to be slightly stretched when comparing it with the new part.

Thanks for your reply. I was holding it at ~1900rpm I think.
Car now got 178.000km or 110.000mi.
Car is still standard but chiptuning comes to my mind now. As with all extra force under the hood, a broken chain within a week would be not so pleasant
