Just won a 2013 Nexus 7 on Ebay for 86.00 so I went ahead and ordered the rest of the needed parts from Amazon. This will be my project for next weekend.

Haven't quite decided how I'm going to mount the Nexus yet as I have iDrive. Looking and exploring alternative mounting options.

I would not want to cover up the iDrive screen or put anything on top of it since it's very scratch prone. I have and idea in mind that involves magnets but not sure how the tablet would react to a a strong magnet on the back of it. I'm waiting to get the tablet in the mail so I can test my theory. I will post my final set up/solution for all.

Just finished installing my hidden dashcam based on this most excellent idea/post:http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...idden+dash+cam.
What I did differently is I ran a 10 ft mini USB to USB extension cable from the hidden camera in the mirror housing to the cigarette lighter socket under the glove box where I plugged the USB end straight into a USB cigarette phone/tablet charger. I still need to relocate the lighter socket into the glove box to neaten things up but it's working just as advertised. Rear stealth camera install is next lol.

This combined with the hidden dashcam setup would be the ultimate modification.

i'm running a similar setup, except i used a 2012 N7 and fitted the dock with some small magnets to hold everything in place and really make pulling the tablet out a cakewalk when necessary. I'm considering upgrading to the 2013 N7 because of the QI charghing, that combined with a bluetooth aux jack, would (in theory) provide an absolutely cable free install (very OEM-ish) |

I apologize for the ignorance, but could you explain what you mean by much of the work like auto power off must be done by myself?

No problem, with the nexus you can youse a specific kernel or "software" that sets the tablet up to be used in a car such as screen on when power is supplied and screen off when power is cut. It also puts the tablet in a deep sleep to save power and preven the screen turning on when the car is off potentially attracting theives. This and many more features are all implemented for us with the kenel specifoc to the nexus 7. So yes you can manually do all this to the Samsung its just a bit of work. Im not trying to sell the kenel but do a quick google search "timurs kernel" and you can see all the features explained in much better detail.

No problem, you can pick up a nexus 7 2013 real cheap now and it has minimal branding and the matte black fits nicely with our interior.
