Disa Valve Question

so i was getting a code on my 2006 330i 2AA8 DME: Variable intake system, servomotor: activation for a few months but i dont drive the car that often so yesterday i did some research and it pointed me to the large disa valve i took it out and the flap was hanging on but not detached from the motor. but i did not see a pin. My question is everything im reading states you need to take off the manifold as it has a metal pin and it can destroy your engine but the pin stem is made of plastic. does this particular model have a plastic pin instead of a metal one?
