Won’t rev past 3000rpm, limp mode?

Hi all, new member here. I’m after some advice/knowledge of anyone can help.

So…

Recently bought a 2010 e90 318d M sport business edition with a snapped timing chain.

Pulled the engine, stripped it down and replaced full chain kit, head pressure tested, light skim, new valves, guides etc

While engine was out I decided to gut the DPF

Any got it all back together, engine runs mint but it won’t rev past 3000rpm and it’s like it’s in limp mode.

I initially thought I’ve got an actuator problem on turbo as it doesn’t seem to boost but a friend has said that the problem will be the DPF being removed and not having it mapped out yet.

What symptoms Would dpf not being there and not being mapped out yet cause?

I haven’t been able to read any codes or anything due to not having access to diagnostic equipment
