Horrible Noise 330i n52 - grinding, screeching, whining bearing? | VIDEO

Cannot figure this one out.

When I start the car it idles fine. When I start to rev, at around 2000rpm it will start this horrible noise. The noise will increase in revs and will sustain until I restart the car.

It sounds like a bearing or really bad pulley. Judging by other videos, it sounds like A/C compressor. However, I've removed the drive belt and the noise remained. Does not change with AC on/off.

Here is the kicker.... No SES light or INPA error codes, so I'm stumped. Please help.

pcv failed?

I don't know about the metal valve cover ones, but on the plastic n52 when the pcv fails it makes a terribble screeching noise as the pressure whistles through the diapragm.

I second this, that noise sounds like air moving through a small orifice. The odds are you have some cracked CCV piping as the plastic for these hoses become notoriously brittle as they age. I'd pull the intake manifold and start looking around. Be prepared to buy some new hoses as they tend to fail just trying to remove them due to how brittle they are.

Good luck!

Thanks, I'll look into the CCV, but I am doubtful that is issues. I would of expected symptoms like suction at oil cap, whistle noise, or exhaust smoke.

But this sounds more like a metal bearing/rotating mechanical noise.
It does seem like it is louder from behind/below the manifold. Perhaps dual mass flywheel or input bearing. I will keep investigating.

it didn't start until you reved to 3K RPM. It could be DISA valve, or vanos related. Mechanics stethoscope may help to locate.

Quick update. We really felt like the noise was coming from bell housing, so my mechanic (also brother) put the car on lift and said he found this at the bottom of the flywheel cover/housing.
Presumably Clutch and/or a piece of the dual mass flywheel? Would the symptoms lineup with that?

All the usual suspects, like belt pulleys, DISA, VANOS solenoids, CCV, etc... have been looked into already.

As loud as it is, I think you should be able to easily figure out what is making the noise with a mechanic's stethoscope.

that looks like the remains of the dual mass spring.

but that's usually a rattle, not a squeal.

Update. I ended up selling the car as is. However, was 95% sure that the issue was the flywheel and/or clutch. However, we never actually dropped the trans to confirm.

I was going to sell the car anyways, so just took the hit and sold it with the issue. Thanks to everyone for input.
