N43 - New Owner
Hey guys, this is one of my first posts here and I recently bought a 320i 2011 LCI with the N43 engine. The car is running great, has no issues with starting, driving, whatever. BUT, here is the but. In the morning it has a 'rough' sound between 2000-3000rpm. It lasts only for 2-3 mins until it is warmed up a bit.
The sound is like this one: I have booked it for the quality enhancement program for 10th of may but I was wondering if there is a major problem going on. The engine only has 30.000 km~. Thank you ! |

Only just stumbled across this post. You might have got it sorted by now. Sounds like the timing chain. Mine was an easy fix by tightening the timing chain tensioner slightly. I then replaced the timing chain tensioner with a new one a few weeks later to be on the safe side. If the QE you’re talking about is the brake vacuum fault repair, they will “test the timing chain” for slack and replace the whole chain, guides and tensioner for free if necessary. I think that if I hadn’t replaced the tensioner myself, they would have replaced the timing chain for free when mine went in for the QE.

hello wrongmark
it's not fixed yet as I got the car for the brake vacuum repair and they said the car is in perfect shape. I ordered the part just in case and I will change it this week hopefully. Also, the engine has 30.000 km~, I feel kinda bad that the tensioner is already gone (but the sound lasts only 30 sec~ at the first start in the morning) LE: today I changed the tensioner with the new model 11318685091. Previously it had 11317567680. All seems good, when I started the car with it installed (no oil in it), the sound wasn't present anymore. hope that tomorrow when I will test it again at cold it will be the same I also found a video on youtube with the differences between the V2 and V3 tensioners ( ) . Seems that the new one is much more stronger and it has different oil feeds Last edited by vladr221; 06-19-2019 at 11:38 AM.. |

Great, hopefully you've caught this in time and sorted it then. I never believe the BMW dealership mechanics when they say the car is in perfect running order.
