Turbo Rattle on 335D? What years were affected?

Hi all,

Sorry if this is redundant, I know there's tons of great information on these forums relevant to what I'm asking, but I experience a sort of analysis paralysis and can't find the exact answer to my question.

The turbo wastegate rattle. I'm interested in a few 335i/ds and it scares me. I want to clarify some things about it though.

1) Does it tend to happen at a certain mileage, or is it more a result of turbo abuse? Reading about the 8yr/82k mile warranty made me assume it happens later on and is simply an "old age" issue. But then I read about people experiencing it around 30 or 40k.

2) Did it affect the 335d as well? I would imagine it did, but don't seem to find much info about a wastegate rattle on the diesel. Was it only an N54/55 issue?

3) What years did it affect? I know '07-'09, what about later model years? Did BMW have it sorted out by the 2011 models?

Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

I have a D, and there is no wategate rattle issue that anyone has reported. The turbos are different on a D than the gas engines.

The 335D and 335I don't have much in common engine wise. Pretty much everything is different in the core engine.
