Garrett GT3071R on a N52. What do you think?

Friend is giving me a GT3071R for free, hes getting a different turbo. Thinking of putting it on my 328i. I have a couple questions.

How much psi can i run before needing to modify the motor?
What bolt on parts would I need?
Any thing I should know about a turbo'd N52?

Thanks.

You need to follow the 2 threads regarding turbo n52's.

So far there are only 3 cars to successfully do it. All of which requires quite a bit of work. You won't be able to "buy" bolts on to make it work. You'll have to get a majority of your parts custom fabricated.

Either that, or wait for BPC to release their kit.

Alright. Why is turboing an N52 so rare?

Because the cost associated with it exceed the cost of upgrading to an N54 or N55 mainly. Keep in mind, the N52 was released in 06, a year later the n54 came out so a large portion of the mod community became focused on the N54.

I believe if the N52 was BMW's flagship I6 for a longer period of time, we'd see more options from aftermarket companies. Without those companies placing focus, it leaves it to owners to come up with the manifolds & modifications to make the turbo work.

As mentioned BPC is making a kit as we speak, just all depends how much your willing to spend to get those extra ponies.

You should have bought n54 (difference in price nowadays is minimal, like $3-4K in most cases), it is much easier to mod and boost, getting 400hp from n54 only by software modding ECU (jb4) to begin with and then up to 700+hp if you change some hardware, and that is far from limit (800+hp 335's are not rare on the roads)

Yea, I regret it now... Looking into just selling the turbo & my car and getting an f30 335i.
