Do you bite your nails?

Was browsing the interwebs and found this article from last year. I'm not a fan of research trending, but it was interesting when coupled with my Meyers-Briggs INTJ, which has been consistent since college.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/0...n_6854152.html

"New research from the University of Montreal suggests that compulsive behaviors like these might say more about your personality than you think.

People who are generally impatient, or who get bored or frustrated easily, are more likely to engage in repetitive body-focused behaviors such as skin-picking, nail-biting or eyelash-pulling, the researchers found.

The study, published in the March issue of the Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry, points to perfectionism -- a trait that can be more damaging than many people realize -- as an underlying cause.

“We believe that individuals with these repetitive behaviors may be perfectionistic, meaning that they are unable to relax and to perform task at a ‘normal’ pace," Dr. Kieron O'Connor, professor of psychiatry at the university and the study's lead author, said in a press release Tuesday. "They are therefore prone to frustration, impatience, and dissatisfaction when they do not reach their goals. They also experience greater levels of boredom.”

Interesting... I am ENTJ (E, N, and T were very strong - I was borderline J/P) I bite my nails. I will quit off and on, but I am definitely prone to repetitive behaviors. Have since I was very young.

I'm a nail biter, but not to the extent I've seen some people.

I'll be honest, I do get bored fast, and I like to constantly have things to do or try new things. I do think a lot of people who do or don't get frustrated or disappointed if they don't reach a goal. I'm not entirely convinced by the article.

Same here.

It's not overly compulsive and I do catch myself when my mind wanders, partially because I've been told since I can remember that it's not a good habit, which I understand. It's neither professional, nor positive but does corroborate the MBTI.

I'm about 3-4 points from E, but have consistently tested I.

From a random website, since I can't remember this shit...

"People who prefer extraversion draw energy from action: they tend to act, then reflect, then act further. If they are inactive, their motivation tends to decline. To rebuild their energy, extraverts need breaks from time spent in reflection.

Conversely, those who prefer introversion "expend" energy through action: they prefer to reflect, then act, then reflect again. To rebuild their energy, introverts need quiet time alone, away from activity."

My days running is alone time. Being on the boat in the channel is alone time. Going for a drive is alone time.

I remember doing this a lot in elementary and middle school. Sometime during middle school, I remember making a conscious decision to stop the bad habit and haven't really done it since. In fact, I grew more and more OCD about germs as I grew up.

There's nothing more disgusting than seeing someone chew their nails. The amount of bacteria that gets between your finger and your nail is incredible. I actually cringe seeing Lebron James chew his nails nonstop during games lol, it's so nasty! He's bascially eating the sweat out of his nails off the same ball that every single player touched hundreds of times, ewwww.

How'd you know?

For the record, I prefer a more sensual tongue penetration of the female box. I'm not a pornstar.

That feeling of accomplishment when you bite them just right and get that perfect curvature and just the right amount of protruding nail is a fantastic feeling.

By biting your nails you are essentially removing said bacteria pocket. He also doesn't dribble the ball with his nails. I used to watch a lot of 48hrs Mystery and they always find DNA under fingernails. I would joke with my wife that they would have a pretty hard time doing so if something happened to me.
