Elring Klinger for Oil filter Housing Gasket?
Need to change the Oil filter housing gasket on my 2008 E93
Genuine BMW has it for $30 whereas, Elring Klinger has it for $11 . Does it matter? Can I go ahead with the cheaper one? Thanks! https://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin...-8-637-821-BOE |

In general, get the real deal, the 20 or so dollars saved are not worth the potential time expense of doing it twice.
That being said, it looks like this particular manufacturer is the OEM supplier. In that case I'd say go for it. |

I found both OEM gaskets for around $20 on Ebay.

Elring is an OEM manufacturer. If you're suggesting OP go with the OE part that's fine, but I haven't had problems with Elring gaskets (Or Rein, or Victor-Reinz for that matter.) I used an Elring VCG on my S54 and it worked perfectly.

I would go genuine BMW for this application. The latest revision has additional ridges for support and I think the other brands are still the older version.

I just changed it a couple of weeks back using the Elring one. Made in Germany, I think it is probably OEM. Previously the Victor Reinz one seeped after a year. That is junk I am not going to use again.
Prior to changing I had some seepage at the bottom of the housing this time, but this time I wasn't waiting for it to leak more. There was also a fluid drainback sound when the engine was shut down and more valve ticking. After the change (along with new filter and oil, as well as 2.5 qts of coolant) it was quiet for a couple of weeks and this morning the ticking came back. I wonder how bad the camshaft ledge is worn. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1158235 Quote:

I'm currently using the URO parts one, bought a few off Amazon at $9 apiece. In Canada they were charging $50CAD for this part, I was actually offended when the parts person gave me the quote. $50 for a piece of rubber? GTFO.
These also have the ridges as shown in the pics above. 4 months and nearly 5k miles later I'm still dry. I check it every few weeks, and have made a note to check at 1 year. Honestly this is a part I expect to replace every 2 years or less, so why spend more money? I don't think the rubber quality would be that different between reputable suppliers.

get it from FCP euro. I got the elring one from there and did this 3 months ago. so far, so good. And if it leaks, you just get another one for free from FCP...

I replaced mine over 15k ago. With the new Japan ones. And there hasn't been the slightest indication of a leak. I even check my coolant regularly to monitor oil/coolant mixing. And safe to say all has been well! Easy job. Spend the few extra bucks and just get the latest revision OEM JDM gaskets 🤣🤣🤣 |

It's only been a couple of days since I replaced mine. I used Elring Klinger. Seems to be fine.
