N54 (135i, 335i) servicing costs?

Hi guys.

I am SERIOUSLY tempted by a 1 series M. To the point that I'm a phone call away from laying down a deposit.

The thing I really need to know... Is any idea on the servicing costs when compared with my 320d? It's tough to draw a direct comparison I guess. Think the turbo configurations are different in the new 1 series m? sorry if any of my info is wrong. I'm just starting to look into it.

There's the running in service.. Other than that: Are we talking M3 level 1k a pop services or 300-400 a year a la the 320? (Wear and tear components such as breaks/tyres not withstanding.. )

Any advice or even just links to other discussions would be appreciated.

Dave

My last oil service, brake fluid and intake silencer/ micro filter element....BMW delaership came to £169.83 and I supplied my own oil...to give you an idea....

hmmm tyres.... about £200 per corner? I would say....Non runflats....unless you're mad to go for the briget Stones...£250....

brake pads and discs plus labour came about £750 , as far as I remember....

You've read about 335i engines....so you know about the carbon and the HPFP.... ;-)

Don't go to the 1 series, you'll regret it. After driving one for a week not so long back I just realised how cheap some cars can be with hard plastics and iffy build quality. I doubt I could live with one after having a 3.

I'm sure the engine would help but considering as the driver you live in the cabin it would be a major step back.

Go for the 335i if you can.

The 1-M is a different prospect. I've driven a 120i before so know how the lower ones can be.

But I do really need to drive one before committing to buy.

If I put my sensible cap on, I'll buy a used 335d.

I've got a couple of days of very tough decision making to do...

Interesting re: the oil / brake fluid. That is a decent price. I wonder if BMW will supply their usual "30% M Surcharge" given that it is a

As for tyres: I already run on 19" non runflats. So no need to fill me in on that side

I would say either go for the 1m or a 335i [ with a map? ]. A 335d isn't really sensible as it's still pretty poor on fuel in the grand scheme of things, if your going sensible you may as well stick with what you currently got.

I think the 1m from looking at views and other statistics / 'ring lap times is shaping up to be an impressive car. Personally I dislike it's styling but each to their own.

Good luck with what you choose!

Well. It's got the same engine as the 335i? Similar economy too.

You definitely can't compare it to an E90. Maybe an E46. Although it should be cheaper to run than an E46 also.

No offence but says the guy with an oldschool golf

The 335d is both more economical and faster than a 335i so I know which of the two I'd go for. Also more reliable. But please, this is a debate for another topic and furthermore one had on this forum dozens of times before

but its got an n54 engine in it, hence why I've compared it to the 335i......

wouldn't be too fair to compare it to the big V8 ....pushing 410bhp circa...

I dont see the 1 M as a proper M car. If I had £40k to spend on a M car it would be a well specced low mileage M3.

Ahhh, i thought it had a fettled version of the E46 straight six? So are they not tweaking the N54 at all???

Still, I reckon they will still stick the M premium on...so yeah maybe the e46 M3 is a good compare....my neighbour always came back from Service and shrugged "another grand"

I loved my 335d and my 135i, but I loved the 1 more. They have equally shit interiors, which even the cheapest Audi A4 driver could laugh and laugh and laugh at.

I'd never buy a 1 M unless it was used and the difference in cost between it and the 135 was actually valid. As it is, new, I couldn't live with the knowledge!

N54 before N55, though, no matter what car its in.

If you get the M, you could sell it soon after probably to someone on the waiting list?

Just got a 1 M brochure through the post. No sat nav as standard or leccy seats! And black, orange or white! Nothing about servicing!

No matter how the 1M went I couldn't live with how it looks. For an OEM styling kit that thing looks appalling!

It's like BMW farmed out the mod work to Autovulgar......

Fair play!

BMW must be able to give you an estimated service cost / schedule. All manufacturers make them for lease companies. How many miles are you planning?

I don't think it would need a running in service? Its just the current 335i engine with a mild tweak, not a super spec M V8.

Maybe as it has the M3 rear diff, that will need a short oil change to remove the running in fluid? But not the engine for sure.

The x35i engine servicing costs are no different from any other 3 series really, oil etc every 15k plus the usual filters etc.

If i'd followed specified intervals, I'd have had one oil & filter & microfilter change in 22 months and 24k miles, so about £200 all in, in nearly 2 years. That's it.

You'd be suprised, the 1er is only a few cm smaller and a bit lighter than an E90, its very deceptive, they make a big car look small!

1M coupe = 1570kg, 4380mm L, 1803mm W (only 1/2 inch narrower than an E90 mirror to mirror)

335i E90 Msport = 1610kg, 4531mm L, 1817mm W

F##K! A full tank of petrol would make the 1M weigh more than the E90!

BUT - Evo mag have high hopes for it and if M division have used the now obsolete N54 motor I think that tells you alot about the N55!!

Up the N54!
