Okay... so...i'm a cheap ass and i got a 325i i'm looking to mod up piece by piece.

Would it be more practical to get a universal twin turbo kit or retrofit the 335i twin turbo setup in the N52 engine?
From what i've looked up though, you can't use the N54 turbo's like that because they're designed specifically for that engine (computer-wise as well) but i don't know for SURE.

No matter what happens it would be cheaper to just get a 335. I doubt those turbos would mount up and I see the only practical thing would be to swap engines which would not be worth it. If you want a TT car, cut your losses and sell your car and buy a 335.

Not to mention that the MgAl block can't handle turbocharging very well.

I heard you can drop a 2JZ in the E9x body but then it would have to be a single turbo.

That's not practicle, would cost you a freaking bundle to do.
If I was you I'd do the following if you don't want to buy a 335i right away
Do a 3-stage intake mainfold conversion
AA tune
performance exhaust
for your intake do a carbon filter delete and a drop-in
that right there will put you at around 265-270hp

I think you need to make a determination.

1. Are you chasing after mods for mods sake? Then do what ever you want. If its a hobby that you enjoy, then you are entitled to do whatever, with no explanation or justification.

2. Are you trying to get the car as fast as a Ferrari or 'Vette, then you have deeper psychological issues at work. I made some long post in another thread about spending huge $ for 25 horsepower improvements and the inability to use them on the street anyway...so is this just some pissing contest? If so, you'll probably never be happy with the results, or, see #1, which isn't about the results, necessarily, just the joy of the journey.

Or, 3. The blatantly obvious way to go about this if you MUST have a faster, more powerful, less useful, less reliable car (although all that applies to a lot of the overkill mods people like to do), then get the 335.

Useful is a narrow word. Does it work? No frill or emotion involved. 335= HPFP issues, turbo issues, injector issues, higher cost to purchase and maintain, etc, etc.=less useful.

Sure, faster is better, but I can walk to get somewhere too. Feet=ultimate useful. hahaha.

That statement is a pure oxymoron. Being cheap and modding don't belong in the same sentence, especially a twin turbo upgrade.

Hmm well:
1) Too high compression - will ping and ignition retard will be in overdrive so you will have much less power gain than you think..

2) Crank is not set up for the added stress of a turbo motor- things like bigger saddles etc... so your motor won't probably last all that long.

3) It will cost a bundle

4) you'll still be driving a 325.

5) if your looking for "Sleeper" status, remember a stock 335i will blow your doors off as well as every stock Subi, Evo and some well fed dogs and my sisters Cat if it sees a cigarette lighter- long story.. lol

6) you will probably have to hack some sheetmetal while doing it and will actually LOWER the value of your car.

7) If you have to ask, you might not posses the ability to do this and getting it fixed will be big bucks every time things go wrong.

I'm talking from some experience here. as well as years of desert racing trucks and fabbing everything imaginable Ive put blowers on things having heads fly cut and lowered compression for it with the right stuff (like lower compression pistons and getting, in my case it was chevy, a 4 bolt main block to handle the extra stress)and generally spent way too much being a dillweed and running into someone everytime that had something better.

Drive a rental car piece of sh*t around town for a week, then get back in your 325 and thank god for what you have, not be jealous of the kids on the block with inheritance money.

I'm in the same boat, rushed into getting a BMW.. bought the cheapest one. Regret it, but still love it.

I know better though and am going to trade it in and get myself a CPO 335.

I did the same thing. I ditched my Audi because I missed the feel of a BMW and got caught up in just getting back in one and got a 328. Its a great car and I love it 1000x more than my Audi, but I wish I had started reading these forums before though, as I probably would have sprung for the 335.

Sometimes when I get busy and don't frequent this forum, I become more complacent with the 328, but as soon as I get back on here, my itch for a 335 comes back! Hmm..............
