Yes, dealership are required to inform you if the car is a buyback or if there has been anything done to the car ONLY if you ask. Sales people are willing to say anything to sell a car to make a quick buck. If you do not ask for the car's documented history the sales person will not tell you anything. So this means that before buying a car from anyone or any place, make sure that you know the car's history.

What the OP did here was to sell a car listing all of its features, grmk did the right thing in asking for the VIN number and acquiring the car's history. He has the right to bring that VIN number to any service dealer to obtain information about the car. The OP failed to mention specific details when asked what had happened to the car which is very shady.

On the other hand, if you buy this car then good for you as in you got a good price while the car is still under warranty. But beware about fixing the car when it's out of warranty.

No 335 has sold for less than $33K at an auction. I go to all the southeast auctions, and I have access to all the auction sale prices.

Ask any of the people that PM'ed me, and they will tell you that I disclosed the fact that it was a buyback. I just didn't put that in the ad because of the non-serious buyers like you that tarnish my for sale thread.

That one that sold for $27,000 was damaged all down the passenger side. I was making a point that they don't go for $26K.

I know how auctions work as well, but is anyone on here a car dealer with the ability to go to these auctions and buy these cars? Auction prices are good for gauging wholesale prices, which the general public cannot pay. The best comparison for most would be vs. what dealers are charging. If a dealer is selling a car for example 40k, and he is offering his for 35 or 36k, then that is a great price. Remember, you don't know what options, colors, conditions these dealer cars are. And, most people spending this kind of money want a very specific car. Granted if you are able to go to a dealer only auction and see a 335 you like, and it's clean, by all means it will be a great deal. I have bought many past cars at auction so I have experience with this.

Too bad about the engine This is the exact color combo and packages that I would want. Maybe if it was 33.5k I would have no problem taking it off your hands

I'm busy hunting for a 335 at the moment... if someone were to buy this car what kinds of problems would they have to resolve out of their own pocket?

And does it seem like the mileage is excessive for a 2007 car?

I'm new to this world, so any advice would be appreciated. =)

Everything unless BMW decided to take away the warranty on this one.. If not, when the warranty expires and you have problems with the engine again your going to be screwed, but thats the same with any car. And have fun trying to sell it when your done with it, probably going to take a big hit...

Yeah, the resale value has to be the kind of thing that won't last without some kind of BMW safety net...

How does someone get a sense for the current value of this kind of car? The buyback thing doesn't seem like a horrible circumstance, but it does seem a bit worrisome..

when you buy a car from the dealer auctions, doesn't it void the warranty?

No - who told you that? BMW dealerships get most of their used cars from auctions where lease returns run.

Find a dealer that will give him more for the car and then complain.

I agree with this statement... We as a group can either make or break our resales. We already know dealers will kick us in the shorts, we can be fair to each other and still not "Give" our cars away.

Who are you talking to? This car was a 6MT. I have two others listed on here that are both 6MT with excellent prices - they are not buyback's though.
