Hi folks some assistance please to do with USB stuff
I've looked though quite a few of the DIY guides as of yet i've not found what im looking for????
I have a Pre-Lci 330D with the upgraded Professional headunit and factory loud speaker package or whatever its called with subs under the seats and more speakers.I have an AUX port in the centre armrest but no USB which would be handy for charging my phone/Ipod/..I dont have Idrive or ccc either. Is it possible to retro-fit a USB port into the car in or near the Aux port and have it working though my headunit and steering wheel or is it a none starter? Thanks for any info....

Yep make sure that one of the USB ports is 2amp if your phone needs it (eg Samsung s4)

I believe theres two approaches to getting working USB that will actually interface with the stereo, rather than just charge.
One involves retaining your existing head unit, and adding some sort of module in the boot (MULF perhaps?) The other involves replacing the head unit with a newer version which has the USB and Bluetooth stuff built in. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can confirm. I'm not sure how they compare in terms of cost though. |

I had the same issue. AUX port in centre armrest - but no USB (which, in my old E46, just plugged into an after market Head Unit.) After a few months of putting up with an old MP3 player plugged into to AUX and having to faff about with the MP3's volume and skip functions manually on the MP3 itself, I decided to get it sorted. I took the advice of a auto electrician and had him buy and fit a Dension 500 Gateway, with some other little widget. Now I plug the USB in a socket he placed in the glove box and I can, play, adjust volume, skip forward and backward through the tracks etc - all using the steering wheel controls (as you would with a CD) it's brilliant and everything looks exactly as it should regarding the radio head unit. Only thing is... it was a bit pricey.
