I want to do this myself. Instead of trying to weld in a tight place around the inside pipes I am going to wrap them. With that aluminum exhaust patch wrap from autozone or advance auto work for wrapping the perforated pipes?

If not what will?

The reason I want to do this is because I got my secondary cats deleted and loved it! It growled and sounded nice and then I was dumb and got my software updated and my exhaust is almost quiet like before the secondary cat delete.

No. Use titanium exhaust heatwrap. I am going to do this myself in about a week, just waiting for my cyba tips to get here.

Hose clamps to keep the wrap on

I have a wheel grinder and cutter and I am going to rent a gas welder to get the top back on.

I had mine done yesterday. I took it to an old friend that owns a muffler shop.
he looked at me like with a smile after i showed them the way you guys are doing it.

he fitted a 2.25" pipe in through the outlet and welded the outside of the rest of the 2.25" to he outlet muffler. fit like a glove. made a small hole and took some packing out. clean and easy. sounds really good. Dont panic with ohhh you will loose power cause of the 2.25" pipe well ladies stock is 2.36"..

The pipe turns after the muffler until it reaches the tip. He would have to cut the muffler off.

Cutting the tops of the muffler is easy enough. I plan to leave my exhaust on the car.

If you unbolt the rear hanger, center hanger and the brace bar under tranny the exhaust will lay on the ground. There is some sort of flex pipe at the downpipe or something I saw the exhaust shop do it.

Do you have a coupe or sedan? I have a sedan and got my secondary cats deleted. Sounded great then I got the DME update today and it got quieter.

I am going to use wrap so I can only cover 75% of the perforated pipe so it will still use 25% of the muffler and not be too loud.

Did you replace both pipes on yours or just the mains?

I assume you had your pipe in front of the muffler cut and then re-attached but most likely both ends.

Whitefury how much packing are you removing? I want to remove it all but people on here said it sounds "tinny" but my friend tomz_m3 (look at his videos in this thread) removed all of it and replaced the pipes and it sounded nice.

My other friend also did this on his M3 and wrapped the pipes and no packing and it sounded great.

So I am at a loss of what to do. I have a resonator delete done but it leaks and has crappy welding done so I ordered a magnaflow xpipe and going to install that as well.

probably none of it. Just going to wrap 75% of the perforated pipe so that I can make it more pronounced. I dont want the muffler delete sound.

Will this be as loud as muffler deletes?

No muffler delete loudness is all the packing gone+wrapped/replaced piping. When are you doing this, I am eager to see how it sounds with just the piping wrapped and 75% packing intact.

I'm only going to wrap 75% too. So 25% of the perforate (holes) are still there with 75% of the packing.

Stock muffler is in my trunk and my xpipe and tips come sometime this week. I am going to order the titanium heatwrap tomorrow.

I can't decide if I want to,

A. Remove 50% packing and wrap the perforated pipes with the titanium heatwrap.
B. Remove 100% of the packing and wrap the perforated pipes with the titanium heatwrap.

How about C? Remove 75% of the packing and wrap the pipes?

I'm thinking you want a little packing to absorb some of the sound that makes it past your wrap. Of course, that is dependent on how many revolutions of wrap you use. If you use enough revolutions of wrap to keep any sound from traveling through, you may be good. But I'd leave just enough packing to coat the bottom.

It must be impossible to weld pipe in place of perforated pipe as the tops of the mufflers are being cut and temporarily removed. There isn't much room which is why I am wrapping the passenger side exhaust.

What is to be done with the driver side canister in the muffler?

Dropped of my muffler and tips. They opened it up already and are going to wrap both pipes and remove 75% of the packing.

The first shop wanted $500 LOL, the second shop didn't give me a price but my boy got his muff delete done for $40 there, I am thinking $150-$200 is fair. One of the workers at the shop said he just did the same thing on another 335 a week ago where they replaced the perforated pipes with a solid pipe but I opted to wrap them instead. This is labor, I provided all the parts. I might not install the xpipe just have them fix the welds on the resonator delete.

IMO the cost is pretty expensive, $80 for xpipe, $150-$200 for labor, $20 heatwrap, $120 for tips. If they install xpipe add another $40-$50 in labor. Right around the $500 ball park, my friend got a PE exhaust for $700 used, IMO not really well thought out on my part but whatever. Hope it sounds good.

Do you live in Rockland? If so I would love to come get my mufflers done by your shop as I cant find anyone here willing to do it.
