No it's the mufflers off the 335is. You should be able to hear the sound from videos on YouTube

It's always nice to have the real thing. True the P.E. exhaust can be made for around $200.00 or so and you can buy one from Mod bargains for $450.00, but nothing compares to the real thing.

Consider you can get a used BMW Performance set of mufflers for the N54 for about $750.00 vs $450.00 for something that sounds close to the real thing or just pay the extra $300.00 for the real thing.
It is an OEM performance exhaust.
BMW makes a performance muffler for the 328 and performance mufflers for the 335.

It's OEM, but you won't find it standard on any 328 from the factory no matter what trim level you get. It's a part that BMW makes in which you can put on after the purchase. The best way is to get one is used for 1/2 the price. They are made out of SS, so their shouldn't be any worries unless you get one with say 150,000 on it.

Also, the performance muffler will only add 5hp at best. It's more for sound to be honest.

I got PE exhaust mod with catless dps if anyone wants to hear. Took out resonator for x pipe, work done to muffler, and took a quarter of the packing out from each side. Here's a cold start, shot on iPhone, so quality isn't the best.

It's a leaf or flower lol. Thank you I don't know about every exhaust system, but this is probably the best bang for your buck if you wanna change your exhaust.

Need to help here about the PE mod. I have a 2011 335i E90 M Sport (N55). I'd like to do the PE mod eventually, but do I need an X-pipe to replace the resonator? I've read other threads, but still need some clarification on what exactly is cut out and replaced for an exhaust on my model/year.

If you have a sedan, you have a resonator.

If you get an X-pipe, make sure you get a SS one. Magnaflow 10791 will work. It needs to be bigger in diameter than the OEM exhaust. 2.25" will not work; it is smaller than OEM diameter. OEM diameter is something like 2.38.

If you get an x-pipe, your exhaust will be louder and you will get more drone because you got rid of the resonator.

The only way to get the drone out is to do a secondary cat delete and put high flow resonators in their place.

Vibrant 1792 High Flow resonators are what most people on this forum use.

If your going to put the car up on a lift and have it worked on, get both done at the same time. You won't regret it.

He said he had an N55 and they come with x-pipe on both e90 and e92.

Basically, I don't necessary want my car to be louder. If anything, I don't want to increase sound that much, but want to squeeze out more performance.

Don't E90 sedans have H-pipes or am I wrong? I believe we also have a secondary cat, if I remove that will it be much louder/have drone?

Also, does doing the PE mod cause you to not pass smog? I'm in California, so it's pretty strict here. I would assume no because I still have my catback, but want to make sure.

E90 sedans with N54 motors do not have H pipes. They have resonators. I do not know about sedans with n55's. As far as cars in California, I have heard it's pretty strict there. You might be able to take out the secondary cats and put in Vibrant 1792 Resonators in their place. However, you'll only see about a 5 hp gain. You need to look under your car and see what you have. Take a picture(s) and post.

N54 sedans have cats, secondary cats, resonator & two mufflers, in that order.

I propose : cats, 1792 vibrant resonators, x-pipe, two mufflers.

The PE exhaust did not come stock on the 335i. You had to order it and have it installed, after purchase back in the day.

Choices -

$1000 new

$750.00 used

$800.00 for 335is mufflers new

Drivers Side - 18307604830
Passenger Side - 18307604831

$400-500 for used 335is mufflers

Note - 335is mufflers are essentially the BMW performance mufflers except that they have black tips, and an actuator on the outside of the drivers side muffler that control's the flap (exactly like standard mufflers). BMW performance mufflers DO NOT have a flap and thus no actuator on the outside of the drivers side muffler. They have silver tips as well.

Pretty easy DIY, if you have good/great measuring skills & a sawzall with a carbon tipped, metal blade (Diablo makes the best).

Not crucial. Unless you live in very wet area. A regular steel pipe will last for years.

I ended up doing the PE Mod yesterday and it seems like the car got quieter at higher RPMs. Any human errors in process that may have caused the exhaust to become quiet. Like bad bypass pipe welds, clamp leaks, type of pipe, vacuum hose or having the exhaust flap actuator cable disconnected? Thanks
