Low engine temperature
I decided to check the engine temperature. So I accessed the hidden menu and went for a drive. It went up to 60C very quickly, within first two miles maybe. And after a short while it was lingering at 63-66C. I then had a short stop and when I carried on driving after that it was 65-69C. It would reach 69-70 at traffic lights but fall lower at higher speeds. It was a mix of town and dual carriageway driving of over 10 miles. I'd say maybe 15 miles. I think it should have been enough for the engine to fully warm up?
Now I saw a Youtube video where it said the temperature should be 87-89C. If it's 80-85C the engine thermostat is broken and if it's 70-75 the EGR thermostat is faulty. Mine is too low to even qualify for a broken EGR thermostat... Though I don't understand how can the EGR thermostat affect the engine temperature???? What do you guys think? |

EGR will take a feed off the engine coolant but will only ever put heat back into the system.
I'd say you want to check the engine thermostat as that's most likely jammed open for you to get those temps. People generally chat about needing 80+ under normal conditions. Anthony |

You've got them the wrong way around by the way, around 80 would point to EGR, around 70 is main, both can be mid 60's.
Should be getting to around 90 with fluctuations +/- 5c. EGR thermostat is cooling the exhaust gas before it enters the inlet, sort of like a charge cooler. EGR thermostat is a 15 minute job to change, main one is a couple hours but I believe access is from underneath, I haven't done it myself. |

main thermostat is the main culprit of low engine temp....rears its ugly head in low ambient temperatures ,not really noticed when temperatures are up in summer months ...stat can be done from the top ,and egr stat is recommeneded to be done at same time as its easily accessible ....quick way of checking is just drive 2 miles up road ,pull over and check top hose into radiator ..this should be stone cold ...thermostat is there to mechanically control engine temperature to about 90c (stat opens at 88c)
