In SoCal? Looking for a good Sunday drive?
I was looking for some great roads to drive in socal area and found a jewel. If your near San Diego, Riverside area you gotta check this out. Take hwy 76 east off of Interstate 15, and go about 15-20 miles east until you get to East Grade Road. Seriously, check this road out on google maps or mapquest. E. Grade road eventually loops back onto hwy 76.
E. Grade road itself is in great shape with plenty of room in the lanes. It starts out with switchbacks that go uphill (tops out at around 5500 ft elev) and then some gentle twisties all the way down to Lake Henshaw. This road may have snow after a storm because of altitude so be sure to check first, but is generally snow free and clean. Also beware of CHP on hwy 76 itself, heavily patrolled. All in all, if your looking for a fun road that was made for our car, check it out. A real fun drive on a good road. If you want to make a day out of it, continue on 76 to hwy 79 through Julian and then hop onto Sunrise Hwy which loops back onto Interstate 8. Sunrise Hwy has soom nice wide sweeping turns (80-100 mph).
