Such a great thread with many helpful contributors.
I shall try this mod as I feel the xenons are pointing too low on my '08 E93 330i. Especially when compared to my friends E46 330Ci. I'm in the UK so I imagine my left (passenger) side would be higher than my right (driver) side headlight. |

Can't figure out how to raise my headlights on my 2007 328xi sedan
Hey all,
I've been through all the threads, but I don't see anything that is helpful to my car. It doesn't have automatic leveling and the lights are just way too low. I see an adjustment screw (Phillips inside a hex head) on top of each light, but it doesn't raise them and I can't even tell what it does. I don't see any other sort of adjustment to raise them and the only way I can see at night is to use the high beams. Does anybody have any suggestions? Pics would be great! Thanks in advance, Brad |

Looks like my passenger side headlight is pointing low and I tried to adjust it but it's not wanting to go up. I have a 2011 335xi sedan msport, xenons with auto level. Any suggestions to fix it?

Maybe something is broken inside. Open the cap in the back of the headlight assembly and see what's going on.

I'm glad I found this post. Been driving for ages like I was "blind". This post with some other data and measurements got it sorted. What a difference it made I can see the road. I didn't get flashed and parked against my other car and didn't get blinded.

Bumping this thread again , I've got right/left issue:
Passenger side adjusts up/down left/right no problem, driver side adjust up/down no problem but won't move left/right. The left/right is so out that the _/ of the driver side is further to the right than the _/ of the passenger side at a distance of about 30feet. Likely an internal adjustment issue, has anyone encountered/recovered from this without replacing headlight? |

Ok, this is nuts. I looked through this whole thread, and several others, and I cannot find the answer to this:
How do you LATERALLY (LEFT and RIGHT) adjust the headlight in the e92/e93?? There is NOTHING under the plastic cap in the fender. Does that mean these headlights do not have a mechanical lateral adjustment?? (I'm not asking about the screw for vertical = up/down adjustment; that's easy to find) |

Right hand drive e90 with xenons. 25 feet away. Thinking drivers side needs highering? Right hand side drivers starts in the middle at 2.5 feet and quickly lowers to 1.8ft. Left hand passengers starts in the middle at 3.5 feet and rises to 4.5 feet as it goes wider. Last edited by sparkymarky; 03-02-2017 at 04:34 PM.. |

Anyone found any fix for a broken adjuster? Not seen one in this thread, my headlights were very low, adjusted passenger up fine, went to do drivers and no movement
Self levelling works fine though. |

Sorry can't help on the rebuild.
Just purchased a 2006 325xi touring and went to adjust headlights. The adjusting screws are set up to accept 6mm hex keys as well. I found the keys permitted adjustment without having to push against the assembly, reducing the stress on the gears. This may be helpful for those with older assemblies . |

Could be lucky and something popped out of place and be an easy but tedious fix.

The vertical adjustments are relatively easily since the levels can be easily matched from side to side.
Simply wish there was an equally easy way to horizontally align the lights as well. I put in some brand new OEM units (may by ZXK for BMW) & I think I turned the screw a little too much on one side. Bt it's hard to gauge where it's at now in regards to relative center.

The manual leveling feature of new (used) headlights I installed last night isn't working on the right headlight. Won't go up or down. I'm also getting an "Adaptive lights not working" error on my iDrive screen.
Are these known issues with relatively easy fixes? Are there components accessible from the back of the headlight that I may be able to fix/replace? Any assistance is appreciated! |

Thank you to everyone who contributed. I've been blinding oncoming traffic for several weeks. I just adjusted the beam on the right headlight.
You guys rock. |

My 2007 E93 driver side headlight aims way too high. Rotating the height adjuster near the headlight does not move the headlight. When the lights come on, you can see the passenger side headlight self-level, the driver side does not - it just immediately points at the high location, there is no subtle vertical movement as you see with the passenger light.
When I look at at the driver side light with the lights off, it appears to me to be physically oriented aiming upward - you can see it in the pictures below. I included both passenger and driver side lights below. Before I go to all the trouble of removing the headlight from the car and taking the headlight apart, is anything else I can try? Thanks |
