Look what I spotted today.
Was out for a wee schlep down some twisty roads to a castle on a hill overlooking the plains in front of Zurich.
On the way back I am surprised to find a wee white car bearing down on me ! Hustling me along. A wee MK1 Escort Good man. I pull in but he whizzes by, so I follow him. I forget how nimble these cars are as he nips in and out of traffic and skelps around corners. Eventually catch up with him at a petrol station. Introduced myself and he was nore relaxed at why I had waved at him before. But what a CRACKER. It is a wee 1100 1968 MK1. Minted. Had a good blether and told him if he is ever thinking of selling .... (price here is buttons compared to the UK). Made my day. In amongst all the mega-expensive exotica out for a Sunday drive, at last a real car

Both your car and the escort look stunning.
has it any suspension mods? cant really see it outdriving a near 300HP denzil monsta. Would love my old mans MK1 RS1600 if he still had it.

Down the almost single track, rutted and bumpy road it was darting in and out of the corners. Quite remarkable for an 1100 - he was skooting along at 140 KM/H on the Autobahn too Totally standard. Driving Go-karts you will know what it is like to have a light car for turning in - even if you are not as powerful as other heavier cars. I need to get back home for a fix. If your old man still had his RS1600 it would be worth more than your car. No joke. D.

I can appreciate a rally spec cossied mk1. Now that would go like the clappers. I know mate, spoke to a geeza at Goodwood who said there now worth anything between 75k-100k. He wishes he still had it.

Wow that is in mint condition. Take it doesn't go out in winter for snow driving. Looks like a summer car.

Looks in beautiful condition too, CD yep properly made as well I would like a Mk. 1 Escort, I know someone with a yellow Mk.1 with some silly bhp Cosworth turbo (I think - will have to ask him about it next time I see it) lump in it, it's AWESOME Guess which car I like best?!

Yeah...
Really good. A mota, producing loadsa HP, hasn't managed to burn the paint off the exhaust manifold.... I would have expected a bit of straw colour, or even blue maybe? |

Not sure ... when I told him what I thought he could get in the UK for that car he was surprised. I'd buy it instantly in that condition. Most Swiss boys who are into "Oldtimers" as they call them, have minted classic Ferarris, Porsches, Bugattis etc. A "lowly" Ford is not high on their list.
I'll be back for a months break soon and will get my own MK1 RS2000 out for a spin Can't wait. Cossies are Ok, but a nice balanced Pinto is more in keeping, and mine puts out ~180ps. More than enough for F U N. Sounds fantastic. Much nicer hearing the razor sharp bark and instant throttle response of twin 40s than a whoooosh psst-psst of a turbo D.

Stop posting pics of that car, you are making me want one!
I'm not a big turbo fan myself, his car is just very interesting Would rather hear the twin 40s myself!

Looks in fantastic condition and yours is superb Dave. When I started modding my very first car (Mk2 Astra) the guy at my local back street gargae fitted the exhaust etc and he had an identical RS to yours but was putting out around 200 hp he said.

Obviously not these twin 40's: Bofors 40mm. These actually sound pretty good, IMO.
