Dual cone intake still the best setup???

Am I the only one who thinks that this is still the best setup?
I was talking with Terry yesterday about intakes while Installing my JB3 yesterday. Currently I have a single cone intake setup and he suggested me to change a bigger filter to get a full benefit of Jb3. If I'll go with bigger filter why don't just go with dual cones. I haven't tried dual cones setup so I want people here to chime in and share their experience.

I'll start another thread for JB3 review once I get my dual cones.

seems like the single cone vs. dual cone (both BMS to avoid manufacturer biases) argument is about looks, not performance...am I wrong there?

So, again, how can these dual-cone intakes that also sit at the top of the engine bay (and are not true CAIs) like Terry's BMS dual-cone intake and the Vishnu dual-cone intake provide real gains, but the aFe intake supposedly loses power? Doesn't make sense to me.

If you have the cash, go AFE dual cone setup. It's a BMS dual cone with a heat shield plus better looks. Currently, as stated in previous threads, performance wise there isn't that much of a difference but with those features I stated you can't go wrong

Yes, according to Shiv. Plus the dual air filter cones supposedly provide for > 2x the surface area as the oem intake flat panel filter for the air to get sucked into.

i think because they are not enclosed in a box, so it sucks more air in

So, then the aFe intake should also do the same.

Huh? No, it's not; I have one. It's an open, dual-cone intake with a heat shield that sits on the same rubber mounts that the enclosed oem intake box does.

Better pics here from an E90Poster who installed the aFe dual-cone intake...

how low does it sit on the heat shield? if it sit really low then the bottom of the filters may as well is restricted > less air going in than the open dual cone intakes, the bms/vishnu dual cones have more surfaces than this aFe since the end of the cone is not solid like the aFe, i dont see how else it could loses power

Maybe its the way the filters on the dual set up sit (BMS and Vishnu; facing each other) compared to the AFE...just a thought...

About AFE, I haven't seen any other aftermarket intakes that losses power. Even a drop in air filter gain at least 2rwhp and the highest they dynoed was 10rwhp. With other aftermarket intakes on a bad day, no fan or close hood we still see some gains. I really like AFe intake because how it looks perfect in the engine bay. I hope someone can give us some answers.

I remember when the BMS intakes first started coming out.. everyone loved how it looked and people started buying it as soon as it came out.. I was one of them.. lol and then couple weeks later, someone dynos it and finds out that the BMS lost power compared to the stock intake. Everyone goes crazy and writes that it's because the intake doesn't have a heat shield.. it's sucking up hot air from the engine.. etc etc etc

Looks like it's one of those days
