2010 CIC Premium NA Maps DVD update

Notes:

- This is a 2.5-3.0 Hrs load. I used a heavy duty battery charger during this load.
- DVD set (3 discs) P/N is 01 99 0 037 287. Cost is $6.94 at TisherBMW, however the Map FSC are $180.00. My Map FSC came with my Nav FSC.
- Either the FSC is loaded by the dealer or by the customer using a 20-character code included in the Map FSC files as a pdf document.
- So far I have seen no radical difference between the 2009 and the 2010 maps GUI.

This thread must be one of the most international on the whole site! Which just shows how much interest there is in achieving the retrofit... BMW could make a packet.

One of the experimental CIC-coding sessions showed up this Day/Night mode map menu selection...

... but so far it does not work in Automatic (map mode changes with the light sensor/switch automatically). There's no Automatic Day/Night mode in the OEM CIC menu (at least in the USA), so all changes have to be made manually.

Will post solution if found.

So far I have retrofitted my 530xd (E60) with a CIC,CID and the new iDrive Controller.

The procedure of activating the Nav:
The System starts up when you press the start button. At this time the CIC,CID and Controller are pinged using the CAN Bus. This takes less than a second.

I disconnected the CAN Bus to the CIC and put it on a switch. Now when I start up the car I let the CIC,CID turn on and then I switch off (approx after 1s) the CAN Bus to CIC for about 20-30s, after that the Navigation System is availbable.

So now the new building an electronic part, which does the entire Procedure for you.
I was thinkink about an N-Type MosFET Transistor (N-Type because they switch on when the input is low) in combination with a Capacitor discharging through a resistor. The Capacitor is charged when you press the start button. The Start button must also connect the CAN Bus, to sent the ping signal. He I m planning to make use of an AND-Gate.

I soon at the "automated" system is tested I will post the schematics

So far the manual switch has been working for the past month. Unfortunaltely no sound because it is coded to Logic7 which I don't have.

Hope this helps some people
Hi Nik news to the circuit diagram?

I believe unless you have an 09+ the update won't work with the CIC. So you have the swap back to your old CCC to bring it in for service. That's what Technic posted.

...and, I'm pretty sure you won't (at this time) be able to update the CIC to newer firmware without using special tools.

Hi
I have a left field question please?

My X5 E70 has the new CIC system with nav/bluetooth etc but no reverse camera.
I have managed to get hold of the CCC retrofit reverseing camera part 66210417969. When I reviewed the wiring diagram, only 2 wires go the the CCC pin 4 (FBAS RFK) and pin 2 (FBAS GND RFK). Now having read all the posts it seems that everyone is saying that all the pins and functions remain the same. So finally my question is will this kit work? I know it will need coding and I have someone to do this.

Thoughts/

The previous FSC received were for my CCC, sent by mistake; its file information contained a CCC P/N. The CIC FSC file information does not have any CCC P/N anywhere, so that's also looks good.

Will try loading these files some time next week to see if they actually work.

I cannot find the P/N for the Voice Control FSC to obtain those files, so if somebody knows please send PM with details.
Is the method you used to obtain the FSC codes publicly available?

Either you contact forum member Patrys or try to find a Euro BMW dealer that can order the FSC for your VIN.

No US dealer will be able to order them for a VIN that is not 2009-on.

Most probably my TCU 2008 software cannot handle the new data. I tested all the BMW Search and Google maps messages with the Assist crew, and they said that the correct data packet went out, so it must be that USA TCU 2008 software simply do not have the features supported at all or those features are supported but disabled.

Canadian 2008 GSM TCU are able to receive Google Maps messages, and the 2008 TCU hardware (US or Canadian) is the same as a 2009 TCU (GSM TCU, same P/N), so everything points towards a software issue somewhere. I will be trying soon to flash my TCU with 2009 software to see what happens...

Another possibility is that the BMW_ONLINE variable is not set correctly, or that GSM_TCU is not set to aktiv on the CIC. But if you are getting the other features, it probably works fine. Can you do telematics? Do they get the emergency data when you call them (location, etc)?

FSC codes seem pretty pricey. This would be a great group buy opportunity if anyone is able to set that up.

If you can't update the software on the CIC, what software do you end up with? Also curious if the CIC adds HD Radio if you did not have it before.

Yes, HD Radio works as it a built in tuner with the AM/FM.

Assist is fully functional, for an US 2008 3-Series.

Everytime I change in the CIC the ONLINE_SERVICES variables in particular (there are 3) it throws an CIC coding error. ASSIST_MY_INFO is "aktiv", though. There's no GSM_TCU variable in my CIC profile, but the TCU itself is GSM.

And for some reason NCS Expert cannot communicate with the TCU, so no coding there is possible.

Hmm....your TCU is the one that came with the car, right? That's weird....

Sounds like you changed all the things I would have guessed...not sure what's up.
