Google Nexus 4
Just been reading about this phone and for £239 for the 8gb machine its a serious bit of kit and pretty much just killed most in the android market!
I ordered a Galaxy S3 last week ... but will return it as soon as i receive it and get the Nexus and a sim only deal.

I'm all over this as soon as it come out. Google have come in really low in terms of price - I doubt they are making much profit on it.
I'm sick of waiting an age for updates (currently have an HTC) so I'm really looking forward to having a phone that will be updated the day Google announce it, like how apple opperate. The last Nexus phone was good, but there were better phones out there - this time, the Nexus 4 appears to be pretty much the best phone out there, with perhaps the exception of only having a max of 16GB with no SD slot. Looking forward to it's release!

So at £239 which is less than half the price of direct competition, it really is hard to ignore. Selling a phone of that spec 1.5GHz quad core and 2GB ram seems very good value for money and must have the other manufacturers worried. No 4G though which is a shame since that is getting rolled out now. |

It's 3.5 G though which can be quite fast.

This caught my eye too. Even though I recently chopped in a 4S for a Galaxy Nexus I'm tempted by this new Nexus 4. I don't regret the jump from Apple one bit (just got bored) and even though it's dated the Galaxy Nexus with Jelly Bean is a great bit of kit. Nexus devices are certainly the way to go with Android imo.
And the Nexus 7 is excellent too. Another purchase I'm glad I made rather than a full fat iPad or the new Mini. Not Apple bashing, they're very good. Just I've seen that, bought the t-shirt. |

What i like is that its a very bloatware free device as compared to the other handsets.
Yes - might lose some fancy apps that Samsung come loaded with etc, but im sure that i can get most of these from the app store. Also - google let you upload 20,000 songs onto the cloud which you can then access anytime. Sounds pretty perfect for me - though might be a bit data intensive so would need an unlimited data contract depending on how much data is used. I really think this phone is a game changer in terms of value for money.

I've heard about this '20,000' song thing but not looked into it yet. Sounds good - might need need to move to Giff Gaff then as they have unlimited data.
Does anyone know for how long Google will support this device? For example, has the old Nexus got 4.2 yet?

I'm guessing Google Music (or whatever it's called) will work the same as iTunes Match. It'll scan your music collection eg your iTunes library or wherever you keep stuff, and match what you've got. So if you've got Abba and Google has Abba then it will just be matched on your cloud storage. If you've got Alien Sex Fiend and Google hasn't then it will be uploaded to your cloud storage. The music is then available to stream or download to your device. Just guessing though. The US has I think had this for a while.
Google will continue to support the Nexus devices for as long as they're able to run the latest Android releases. (And don't forget, 4.2 is still Jelly Bean.) For example my Galaxy Nexus is newish to me but was originally released October/November 2011 and has had all Android updates so far. I expect it will get 4.2 As someone else mentioned, the support is much more Apple-like with a Nexus device. The lack of hardware/software support from the likes of HTC, Sony, Samsung etc for devices that are only a few months old has previously put me off Android handsets. |

Just read up on Google music - they indeed song match - sounds great!
I have a feeling that once I go Nexus, I won't ever go back to a non Google Android device.

Im doing the same - tho moving from a 3gs to Nexus. VfM is the main reason for the move as cant justify paying £30+ a month for line rental.
The nexus + a sim only deal is workign out about £200 cheaper over 2yrs - not inc any cashback deals available for sim only which are pretty good. Last time round i got £120 back from vodafone and ended up paying £8 a month for 2gb of data plus minutes and texts. Would be tempted to put a three all you can eat data sim only in it this time round.

I have an old Nexus and 4.2 isn't available yet. Can't see it being too long before it's available though. Have to admit, I'm tempted by a Nexus 4 at those prices!

Will be interesting to see how the contract prices come out this phone.
Buy buying this off line with my sim only £8.50 per month deal this will cost me £20 per month over 2 years. Bargain!

Unless you havent got the funds at hand to shell out the £280 ish totally agree.
This phone is going to hurt the contract market a bit given that the Samsung G3 was doing great business at £30-£36 a month on various tariffs, and the GN4 is a better phone for a lot less money. May lead to a discounted S3 price soon though.

I wouldn't be so sure about it hurting the contract market. Nexus devices are usually pretty niche for some reason. Well I'd guess they're niche because they're not usually promoted by the big carriers so the awareness of the device is low. And another guess, they're not promoted by the carriers because they can't control the updates.

Was listening to the Engadget podcast this morning and they were talking about this phone - to say they like it is an understatement! Can't wait until Tuesday.
I wonder if it will sell out straight away - should I be ordering at midnight?! Sorry, getting carried away.

God damn it ... thought 13th was monday... an extra days wait now was all excited to order monday!! Apparently you will need Google wallet to buy this - no idea if that rumour is true or not, but maybe worth setting it up in advance.

Is Google wallet like PayPal?
Edit: checked it out. Looks like you can register your cards and then use the NFC to pay for things at participating retailers. Very cool.

By the way, if you have a normal size sim you will need to get that sorted because the phone takes a micro one. I may cut mine down, but probably go into my local tmobile store and get a transfer.
