Is it time for an oil change?
My records indicate that I had an oil change on January 28th 2008 at 5422 miles, it says "Perform CBS oil service" which I am assuming is an oil change (i've taken it to the dealer so many times I don't remember half the things that were done to the car)....I'm at 9022 miles now. The service computer on the dash says to change the oil at 9000 miles...
I guess I am looking for an excuse not to change the oil because I'm going to have to remove my DCI which is a COMPLETE pain in the ass. If all else fails I'll wait until 9422 miles because I've been pretty consistent with changing it every 4000 miles. |

That's odd, it's counting down 9000 miles until the next oil change? For even a relatively avg. driver, that's probably 7-8 mos. away.
Mine says 13,000, and the way I interpreted it was that it wants me to change the oil at 13k, not 13k from now. I suppose when in doubt consult the owner's manual. My guess is that with people who have low mileage on the cars, the above happens. Dealers change the oil (at 5422 in the OP's case) because you've passed the time limit, but not the mileage limit, so they don't reset. That's my understanding. |

I've never trusted the counter, I've been changing my own oil every 3k since I was 16. Jumped to 5k since I switched to synthetic in my truck. In my E90, I put one or two changes in between the "recommended maint."
