If it looks like this...

Then it could be copperslip, grease or something spinning out from the hub.
Hope it's not brake fluid - Or of course it could be cat spray...try licking your fingers LOL

If you're using acid based wheel cleaners... STOP

If it's really baked in ...try some clay bar on the wheel with plenty of lube (maybe use a tar remover as lube for the clay bar) - finger pressure only required. (Halfords do a Meguiars Clay Kit)

If not so baked in to the paint...
Then stick a polish that has resin fillers on it... something like AG Super Resin Polish will do and should be able to be picked up locally. (Halfords etc)

Finally give your wheels a good couple of coats of sealant, or if unavailable a good couple of coats of decent wax will stop it getting etched in to the paint.

Wax will break down quicker due to the high temperatures under braking - but should still last a couple of months.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to cut the brakelines on dxb335d's car.

Just cleaned my wheels for the first time in months.

Been using Wonder wheels and noticed some reaction going on causing similar stain marks to my horror.

When I hosed the wheels down the marks disappeared. Has the Wonder Wheels stuff reacted to the brake dust?

i had a very similar stain on my wheels after storring them for the winter time. I ended up havin to use 2000 grit sand paper to get it off, what ever it was. after that a bit of polish and it was good as new

Carl,
T Cut is an abrasive It won't take the paint off- you'll find Meguiars do a similar T cut type cleaner but less abrasive.
You can try this.

Carl, you might want to look at some "tar and glue remover" or some of this:

http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acata...-79wheels.html

That stuff isn't particularly harsh though so might not get rid of it, I've just started using it on my wheels and it brings them up great.

You can "clay" wheels I believe also which will pull off crap from them.

You could do worse than to join detailingworld if you haven't already and ask on there, ideally with photos - the guys there are v. friendly and helpful but be warned...you may become addicted to cleaning and spending lots of money on cleaning products!

Once you get it sorted consider putting wax of some kind on your wheels. Makes them look shiny and nice and protects them to a degree also.

Silver's right, T-Cut only belongs in the bin mate. It's really nasty stuff for paintwork, very harsh.

I'm fairly sure the staining is from too harsh a wheel cleaner, too much acid or caustic (alkali) tends to do this.

It should polish out with a far more gentle product like Auto Glym Super Resin Polish - which contains fillers as well as a fine polishing compound. This should do it no problem - then definitely get your wheels waxed or sealed and only use a gentle wash on your wheels....once they are treated to a sealant or wax you should be able to make them look like new with a simple pressure washer.
