Adding Reverse Camera. What am I missing?

2008 335i non PDC, 6MT.

I bought a reverse camera and emulator, and can not find any information about where these wires need to go for it to work.

Can anyone lend a hand?

The yellow RCA connector that has red 'stumps' labeled '1' and '2' is your video signal. It goes into the 'camera in' or 'video in' of your head unit.

The 'stumps' '1' and '2' may be used to route power from the Head Unit itself or the HU harness (I used the 'Camera On' control wire from my head unit to provide power). In this case, you'd splice '1' into '3'.

If you don't want to do this -- then simply leave '1' and '2' unconnected and hook power/ground to '3'/'4'. Note that you should use a relay, rather than tapping directly to the reverse light for power. I've seen that for some camera's -- they'll ground through the mounting screws (or maybe the video ground) and no actual ground in necessary. In this case you wouldn't need to hook up '3'/'4' if you ran power through '1'/'2'.

Gotcha. So you're saying I should run a relay ONLY if I power the camera through the red connectors (connectors 3&4)? And if I run it like you did and
connect #2 to the "camera on" signal in the head unit, I don't need a relay?

As long as you use power (either via 1/2 or 3) from some source other than the reverse light (Such as a switched +12v fuse) you're OK. The reverse light power has too much "noise" on it - it messes up the video).

Well I guess I should have done a little bit more research, as I have the CCC system, and I am not finding any concrete examples of people doing the reverse camera upgrade on a CCC car...

Any ideas?
