There are two versions of the PE for the 335i.

There is the NA (us of a) version which has no flap and as you mentioned there is a plug to put the vac line on. The other version is the EU version which has the flap like the OEM setup.

Personally I went with the US version

If your flapper arm is rattling, you could just unplug the wire, and use a steel cable tie or hose clamp to hold the flapper arm tight in place while open.

Just got downpipes and the jb4 today and my exhaust has started to make the rattling sound, at low rpm only like when you take off slowly from a stop.

Wasn't doing it before today.

I went into the JB4 menu and made the flap stay open but that didn't do anything

I just got the BMW Performance Exhaust, is there an easy fix?

I think it's the flap on the left side of the muffler, I don't know what watergate is?

The noise is coming from the rear left of the car. Same as the OPs videos but at a different time, low rpm not cold start.

Rev the car in Park and listen for any rattling sounds as the rpm falls back to idle rpm.

If you can hear it during this, then the problem is your wastegates, which is part of the turbos.

Otherwise would just be the left exhaust flapper.

He is N55, so it's not WG rattle.

It's the flapper valve on the PE.

Took it to an exhaust shop and they straight away found one of the exhaust pipes supporting brackets was not tightened, that solved my rattle issue

Suggest the OP takes his car for an inspection, get it up on a hoist and be sure where the rattle is coming from, mine was a 30second free fix

I unplugged the wire from the boot on the left hand side just under the tail light. Solved it 100%. It was rattling during startup and on acceleration.

I remember discussing this flap with a senior tech at the dealership years ago. As well as to help warm up the system (cats?), I think it's also designed to close when cruising (i.e. not accelerating), to reduce drone/noise...

But I have had the cable disconnected for years anyway.

Just thought I'd revive this thread. I've got a PE exhausts (euro so with a flap) was rattle like a b*****d on cold starts.

I popped the vac line off and bunged it with a bolt and cable tie, then tied it up out of the way. Solved the issue and shouldn't cause any codes I don't think, its a vac operated flap so won't have any feed back to actually know it its open of shut.

I can for sure say after only 2 drives that it is louder when cruising on the motorway. When at steady states and light throttle it must close the flap. I might try and get a video of it working at different conditions but it is a little annoying. Not sure if BMW will do anything to fix it as I am assuming the pin has worn or the holes in the actual exhaust. Could possibly machine up some shims to take up the slack, but probably a fair bit of work for not much gain.

Cheers
