Getting drawn back to another E9x! (E93 info please)

Iím getting lured back, and feeling tempted by an E93 this time.
In the past I had a red 330d some older member might remember, and a massive spec 320d.
I really miss the red one and wish Iíd never sold it!
Iíve currently got my eye on a grey E93 330i, just wondering how reliable and water tight the roof mechanisms are?

There's a DIY thread on here somewhere that gives you a detailed maintenance plan and the products used. I've used it once a year for 6 years now and haven't had any problems at all. The only problem I've had was the outside temp sensor failing and showing -40oC on the dash temp gauge, this stopped the roof opening as the car actually thought it was -40, a pain to diagnose but a 10 min, £10 fix. Buy a Smartop module and you have the capability to open/close the roof via the keyfob, it's a brilliant little bit of kit and easily installed.

I've just bought a e93 and coming from CLK/SLKs I was concerned about making sure the water drains were kept clear etc. Researching on the internet before buying I didn't find much about failed roofs but typically plenty about water ingress.

But its seems to be down to a lack of maintenance from what I can see. the roof has drainage pipes within the seals and these need to be kept cleaned out and the rubbers treated with gummi pflege. the same as on Mercs. One thing I did find was there is a drain plug in the cills which blocks and the water back sup and can cause all manner of problems. Check out the video below to see what needs doing to prevent this.

Don't think I've found the thread Hibbyfor mentions yet, but sounds like its the one to find. Perhaps someone can link to it for us Newbs?

Iíve had my E93 330i for 6 years now and after my initial maintenance itís never leaked. I use gummi pledge (spelling ) on the rubber seals and itís been faultless.

As mentioned above the drain plugs appear to be the key thing to ensure they are not blocked. Seen a few on the FB groups have issues to find these were blocked and once unblocked a whole load of water just pours out.

Iím 5 years into my e93 330i. No leaks from the roof, other than a tiny bit from the window if I get too close with the jet wash.

If youíre keen on a 330i Iíd suggest budgeting £1,200 for a set of new injectors too, slightly off-topic but well worth considering. If the previous owner has already replaced with index 11 you should be all good.
