335 First Service

Quick question for you guys, my wifes 08 335 isexactly 12 month old and 19,000km, according to the car, nothing is due for service and the dash has another 19,000km to go until the first service comes due.

spoke to Trivett to confirm whether i'm indeed due for my first oil change at 38,000km (19+19), and they said that this is incorrect, and it must be every 12 months regardless of the km's?

now who is right? i personally think that 38,000km is far too long specially for a turbo engine but on the other hand, don't exactly want to pay $600+ for an unnecessary service???

$600 for an oil change is robbery.

Grab a filter and 6.5l of oil from BMW and get your local Midas to do it as it's really easy. You might want to do the microfilter as well.

CBS in the car will base your oil change needs on how hard you drive the car. But any more than 12mths / 15K is too long IMHO. Personally I change my oil every 5K as I drive the car hard and it's an easy DIY.

i only serviced my car after 2 years.

but at the beginning of the year my car was telling me that the oil was low so my wife took it to Canterbury and they changed the oil for FREE.

do not ask me how she managed to do it, but she did. free coffee while she waited too.

do you have to somehow tell the car that you put new oil in? so that the idrive (car) can recalculate the next due date?

There is a reset DIY in the maintenance section of the forum.

I get a 3rd party workshop to do the scheduled servicing and stamp the book and in-between this I do my own oil changes every 5-7,000km. Obviously, because these are not scheduled oil changes, I do not reset the i-drive indicator. I will also do my own brakes when they eventually need replacing.

I normally replace the oil myself every 7000kms (~6months). 12months is too long and 19000kms is way too many kms without an oil change especially so for a twin turbo i6 engine. But $600 is way way over top IMO.

Dont reset the computer if you want bmw to change your oil. Keep your personal oil changes to yourself.

Unfortunately most of us don't get free oil changes by BMW in Aus so resetting the computer becomes personal choice.
