Rb's or Vargas and Tune Options

Im ordering either the Rbs or Vargas stage 2's by the end of the month......Whats the best way to tune the car, I'm currently running a stack tune on my jb with a flash via my cobb v3. would it be best to keep it that way or to get a Pro tune on my cobb?

So on to the poll lol

RB's (is the Thrust upgrade worth it?)

or

Vargas Stage 2's (as well is the billet wheel upgrade worth it)

Rb is proven so you won't be disappointed if you choose them.

Stay with the jb4 and backend flash. Unless you want to go flash tune only

from my personal experience so far with the stack tune its not as dd friendly as my cobb, will i lose out on power from switching to just the cobb and a pro tune after i get the turbos?

You will lose power if you do Cobb only. If you get protune, power will be back.

What's wrong with daily driving with the piggy and backend flash?

I daily on map 7 with wedges backend flash!

The Vargas Stage 2s have shown to be a very potent package, and when a billet wheel is available it should always be optioned out. You'll get better spool and the turbo will hold together a lot better.

Regarding tuning, I'm 100% COBB. I really don't like how the piggys intercept and send false signals to the DME, and they've also had to come to terms that flashes are necessary for Ignition/Fueling/VANOS adjustments. Truth is the piggys are nothing but glorified boost & meth controllers (and you should never tune for meth, separate discussion). Go with COBB, a qualified tuner will be able to build you a very solid tune, confirm that zero timing corrections are occurring (not just on Cylinder 1), and not have you riding the knock sensor everytime you get on it.

To answer your original question, I would recommend RB Turbos. They have a solid track record with plenty of data to back them up. I am not saying Vargas Turbos aren't good, but we don't have enough information on them to see how they perform over time. The upgraded thrust parts, according to Rob, are not needed for his turbos. He only began to offer them simply because some people asked him about them after Vargas said he was offering them.

As far as tuning goes, you will be fine with what you have. I am pretty sure Terry already has a backend flash for Rb Turbos using Cobb. If you don't plan on running meth or E85, you really won't get much gains out upgraded turbos though. This engine to too octane sensitive to run it aggressively without the octane to support it.

I just had my VTT stage 2s installed this past weekend. So far so good, the only thing I'm trying to do now is maximize my power with a custom flash from Terry and Wedge.

Shadow 007 ,

Terry has extensive amount of data from our dyno tuning session amd should be able to get you up and running quickly. We did 31 pulls when we tuned my Vargas S2s (Cobb backend flash) and was able to hit 507/532 on E60 no meth.

I have an auto and with the piggy and backend the car always wants to go and kind of jerks around when even just hardly tapping the gas. i am running the cobb e30 map and i def feel i lost power from when i had the stack tune installed running map 7. but its just not worth the drivability issues it causes

Sorry I'm not following but I have same set up as you and I don't experience jerks. Do you drive in manual mode all the time?

You can always tune the car down with the jb and tune it back up when you want the power.

Well then just use Cobb if that's the case.

I'm not sure why it's jerky maybe someone else can give some input on that.

As of now, I've been sending him my logs for the last few days, using the pump flash and meth. I'm going to switch over to the race flash whenever he tells me. I guess he's trying to see how far it can be pushed before it shuts down. I would love to hit that whp/tq number, hopefully he can tune mine into around that.
