Why is my water pump running way after car is shut off

I noticed the "turbo timer water pump feature" thing running more than usual.

I drove it about 30 miles, and it ran normally, shut off after a few minutes.

Then it cooled down.

I then moved it into my garage, took literally 30 seconds of running. and the water pump was still cycling on and off, the coolant was at like room temperature.

What is happening?

bmw replaced my water pump 2 summers ago btw

I get the pump running excessively long after I use the REST (residual heat function). Even when I turn off the REST the pump will run and run.

Replace the pump. Is internally shorted. Some even starts running after you lock the car. It doesn't matter when it was replaced, how many miles, etc... Parts can fail at any point in time or mileage. As a tech an owner of 2008 335i I can tell you that have replaced the pump on my personal car 3 times already, so including factory total of 4 pumps, I'm at 112k now. On avarage they last me 3 years and 30-35k miles, but like I said these numbers are irrelevant as some pumps last 10 years + and 100k +

Did you replace the thermostat? Maybe that could be it.
