benspeeder So the 6PK1105 didn’t work…? I’m surprised to hear this, because I thought all E9x N52s had the same belt routing.
And not suggesting you don’t know how to change a belt at all, but you released tension completely/had the tensioner wound back as far as it goes? When I did mine, I had more than ample space to slide the belt on with the tension fully released.

Yes, fully moved the tensioner. I was stumped why there would be that much difference but there was. I even compared the tensioner to a brand new one I’ve got on the shelf to see if the pulley was different. They were the same. Go figure!

Just did the bypass with a Valucraft 435K6. I could not get the Duralast 433K6 to fit on my E90 330i. With the bypass it runs quiet but now have a slight loss in power steering. The belt is not loose and I verified my alternator is putting 14V. Anyone experience this?

Looks like it was my time to perform this as well.
DO NOT USE A T55 SOCKET. Please remove this from the guide. Technically it requires a TP60 socket but a T60 worked for me. You only need one person to perform this as well. Just use a breaker bar with a T60/TP60 socket and swing the tensioner over. Use one hand to hold the tension and the other to slip the belt under the pulley. I ended up using a Bando 6PK1100 belt, which is about 43.3 inches and there was still some slack. Initially I was using a 6PK1105 which is about 43.5 inches but it would slip in colder mornings (below 0 degrees C). |
