N54 oil filter housing swap for one with thermostat

So after another successful track day I'm yet again reminded I NEED to get an oil cooler setup on my manual N54. Obviously the easiest way would be to find an eBay oil filter housing with thermostat from eBay. Is it worth going the alternative route AKA block off plate and external thermostat? I'm not really looking for crazy high power ever, 400 wheel should be more than enough for me and I don't want to overbuild this part if I'm honest, the money could go else where with how things are going now. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Current setup: 2008 N54MT with ~216k kms
FBO, stock tune (upgrading turbos, inlets and a few maintenance items before I throw a tune on it)
