Car died - No Start - (FIXED)

Hello guys,

Just posting this here so just in case if you face similar issue, you know what to do. So here is what happened:

Came home from gym, waiting for my wife in the car on the driveway and i suddenly see the red airbag sign go off on the LCD display, followed by the service light sign (RED sign, car on lift), and a yellow warning triangle, circling.

Steering controls stopped to work, odometer and tachometer died, all lights on the dashboard lit up - car was still idling. I shut down the engine, and tried to start it again - nope - no go.

Tried a few different things that night (the most common issues) - disconnected IBS cable, checked battery voltage checked fuses etc, everything seemed OK. Tired and cold went to bed. The next morning i fiddled with it again, and i held the brake and the starter button for like 30 seconds and car fired up, but still all the symptoms persisted.

I drove to my trusted mechanic and he was like yup, i exactly know whats wrong. He removed the glove box, and just below the FUSE box, there is a thing called "Fuse junction box body control module", he applied some dielectric grease, put everything back together and that was it, under 10 minutes everything was back to life.

Following are the pictures (taken from the internet)

Fuse box (without the module):

The module by itself:

You guys can figure out how it plugs in, so basically the contacts were cleaned and dielectric grease was applied to fix this.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: ...and my OBD port went dead as well, so i wasn't even able to scan for any codes.

Usually you want to keep the Christmas lights away from your dash this time of year. Glad to hear it got fixed easily and quickly. Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully this isn't a normal issue.

^ I hope so too. Apparently there was a recall regarding fuse box issues. I tried calling BMW Canada, and according to them my car (VIN) isn't a part of this recall. Please refer to the attached SIB's.

Good old BMW, throwing parts at a car that only required a little cleaning and dielectric grease. Hope it didn't cost you very much.

OK... I don't know exactly what "sac lathering" means and what you northern guys do for entertainment, but that line, along with this one, caused me to choke on my beer.

Any idea why? Early in my ownership I kicked my obd cable and broke the port off, it wasnt too bad to replace. Needed to buy a tool to remove the pins from the broken connector, and replace like 2 of the pins. Lube the steering shaft while you have all that shit apart.

Because the power to the OBD routes through the fusebox, and that was where i had the issue.
