You may not like its looks but to others it looks nice and regardless of its actual function they prefer their car with it.
Its all subjective, as is any mod. |

Because he wants to. That's all that matters. I don't think it's in the same league as the dreaded M badge. It does change the way the car looks so it is all about preference.
I like the way it looks but would be embarrassed if someone asked me about it and I had to say it was fake/dummy. Then again, noone has ever asked me what the fin is on the roof.

Exactly!
Apart from us BMW geeks most 'normal' people haven't got a clue what its does and most think its a design/aero part, nothing more and nothing less. Besides, if someone asks you what its for and you go on about its for the bluetooth, sat nav blah blah blah, you'll tend to embarass yourself and look like a burk much more than you would saying its a dummy. Just tell em its an aero mod and that'll be enough. |

each to their own...exactly. If he likes the look then why not, I'm sure most rear spoilers are fitted cause of the look and not to try to eek out extra downforce...

op go ahead and fit your shark fin mate they look good! My last e90 m sport had one factory fitted and they look so much better with them fitted. when I owned my e46 m sport I went to the trouble of fitting a dummy fin which again looked a lot better. I also had a 1 series m sport with the ridculous radio control car aerials as standard which was also stripped out and a dummy shark fin fitted from an e91. Now i know they are not standard apart from the 1 series coupes but it looked so much better and really improved the lines of the car. This is a great forum but like everything in life you will get a difference in opinion and the usual question "why?!!!" Its your motor mate and for me its a must on a bmw! bm's and shark fins go hand in hand!

Hi guys, my first post and after looking in to it a few threads i cant seem to find what am after lol
Basically instead of fitting a fake one, how much would it cost for BMW to fit it properly for you so it actually works and is not a fake Dont really want to fit a fake antenna so a ball park UK price would be great if any one has done this?? Thanks in advance |

To do what? The shark's fin is for the navigation, telematics and phone. If you have any or all of those things you get the fin anyway; if you don't, you don't.
If you have no fin now then fitting a real one would do nothing more than a fake. It's a bit of plastic, surely there are better things to spend money on?

Oh, you mean to retrofit the OEM Bluetooth package for the phone? Yes, certainly possible but expensive, it's around £800 fitted.

Jebus!! quite expensive to just use your phone in the car lol hmm something to look in to i guess.
Bit disappointed mine does not have one seen as its an SE model with leather i would have thought whoever originally specd it out would have included it?? O well I will have to do without until i can actually justify spending that on phone capability Thanks for your help on this anyway |

Yes it's certainly one of those options that's much more to specify as a retrofit than it is at build-time.

It would only get knocked of when the roof folded into the boot anyway! Makes you wonder why such a ridiculous appendage is necessary when the convertible can provide the features without one. Still each to their own. If you want to to fit a tail fin from a jumbo jet to your car roof then don't take any notice of the detractors on here just go ahead and do it! |
