So why is Pete84 and Greek dude clapping about this? It's 800 RWP. If your 335 had 800 rwp, I'm sure you'd blow something too. I feel bad for the dude, but I guess somebody's gotta find out the limits and you gotta pay to play. So anybody know what happened? Did the gasket blow?

I'd love to know what shop that thing is in. Sounded like ass at the beginning of the run, then sounded like he wound it up to 8k rpm. I'm not surprised at all that it blew up. Sucks though, looked like a nice Shelby with a lot of money in it.

Good find.

The price some are willing to pay for dyno glory. Much respect for Ford mass producing a bottom end that would put up with that kind of abuse for as long as it did.

If the tune was bad, you will see the damage on top of the piston where combustion takes place. Knock can do funny things to your pistons.

The tune was ok as evidenced by the condition of the piston. The failure was due to weak rod component (not that weak considering it broke at 800hp).

The guy was pushing it on stock bottom end. Mustang ain't no supra.

The 5.4L motors have extremely long rods that hate high rpm's. I found out the hard way in my Lightning and ventilated my block much like that guy just did. Big boost and high rev's will kill a 5.4 every time.

Too much boost, too many revs, rod bolt let go, put windows in the side of the block, fire ensues.

Sucks that Ford didn't make the GT500 engine as strong as the '03/04 Cobras. Shops are putting down north of 700whp without a problem but eventually the rods become the weak point. The terminator engines have repeatedly held up to over 800rwhp and some have even seen over 1000 with turbo/supercharger setups without fail. On a more expensive note, I'm pretty sure all those TT Ford GT's making 1200+whp are doing it on the stock longblock. Moral of the story is, Ford knows how to spec out and build an engine.
