The front plate is not a scheme to make money. States with the requirement have determined it's a public safety issue - It can help the police find a stolen car, it can help a witness identify a car involved in a hit and run, etc.

Seriously, if you don't like it:
1. Put the plate on your car
2. Write to your state rep and senator.

But until the law is changed, just put it back on.

This. I hate to tell everyone this but most states have required front plates for the past 60 -70 years or so, long before there were any electronic means to use them for anything else then being read by the naked (policeman's) eye.

I didn't read the whole thread... but I have a legal solution - put the US plate OVER the Euro plate if you are so intent on keeping the Euro plate and covering the hole.

Plate has been replaced, took a while to find the plate and flatten it to look somewhat decent

Yea I hear that. You would think with all the other real law enforcement challenges this would not be a big deal...

My friend had his E30 325is in London on Illinois plates for years. Great way to avoid speed cameras and parking tickets. At least it was.

Fords are fairly common in a number of European countries.

Or move to PA where you aren't issued a front plate. Only issue is that it's a PITA when you buy a used car that was registered out of state because you need to remove the plate holder and fill the holes.

Illegally failing to mount a front plate is like breaking the speed limit. No, I don't really care, but you're a goddamn tool for being surprised and pissed when it comes to bite you.

Keep a $190 swear jar. When you get nicked for it, start a new one.

Front plate is the easiest thing to get ticketed and they add on tint and other nonsense. Having a euro plate in america just looks plain dumb, it may look cool for a show or something but DD a euro plate is just stupid imo.

... And neither of those reasons require a front plate. Speed/red light cams and toll cams require a clearly visible rear plate. Front plates are just a cash grab, like someone said earlier in the thread. Nice reflective surface for the cop's radar/laser gun.

I find it ironic that a nanny province like Quebec doesn't require a front plate, but Ontario does

Sounds good in theory. Do you have pics what it looks like "stowed"?

I don't get this.... you are not following the law, and then when the cops try to enforce the law you start whining? It makes no sense.

If your state has a law requiring the front license plate, then you either install it, or pay the fine.

I don't have a front plate, while it is required. I got pulled over once for it, got a ticket, paid it (because I was in the wrong), and moved on with my life.

Whether or not we should have front license plates is a whole another argument.

And what the heck is the deal with having European license plates only in the US? If you want to have Euro plates, then you need to put it behind the DMV issued plates.

I kind of get it, but not really.

After I got my new bumper, I didn't want to put holes in it just to install a front license plate. It was a new bumper and it was tough to justify putting holes in it for any reason at all.

Until I realized, IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER and the license plate is more than enough justification.

After 5 pages though, pics of said hole or it didn't happen. Surprising that no one said it before.
