FYI to those needing a key: This key works. $20 on Ebay + $75 for local locksmith to laser cut and program. Only problem is, comfort access does not work with this key. Better than the other option which was $600 from the local dealer or $300 on the web.

Can anyone provide a definitive process to pair a new blank key to a car?
What I have:
1) car 2005130i
2) 1 old key still working
3) new un programmed key (315mhz as in (1)) via Ebay
No comfort access

Locksmith I used programmed the key in the back of his trailer.. I did not witness what gadgets or software he used. Which leads me to believe it cannot be programmed via the vehicle.

Yes I think you maybe correct, however if it was possible it would be good to share the info with the wider community. What I have tried so far:
1) unlock car with old key
2) placed in dash socket, ignition comes on
3) remove key
4) replace with new key within 2-3 seconds

No dash displays key icon with slash through it, for several seconds then goes out. New Key does not work.

Tried holding key pressed in for 20+ seconds.
Tried foot on brake.
No luck, looks like it’s a pro job!

so i've been trying to get my key situation sorted out for a couple of weeks now

i bought a 2006 bmw 325i about 5 years ago and it only came with 1 key fob (non-comfort access)

a few weeks ago i went to get into my car and the remote functions wouldn't work

i figured my key fob battery was dead and I ordered a new key fob case from ebay for $12 and a new battery identical to the one soldered to my motherboard of my bmw key

i took it to a computer/electronic repair shop today and had the new battery soldered in.

i reassembled the original motherboard with a new battery in the new key fob case and it fit together perfectly.

however, my remote functions are still NOT working

the car starts and drives fine but I have to enter the car manually

any suggestions?

Go to any auto parts store and use their IR tester.

One of your buttons probably went bad.

A. You can have a new button soldered on to your old key

B. Have someone like mizta insane program an aftermarket key with the BMW Multi Tool

C. Go to the dealer and pay $500

For a CA key, it MUST also be separately programmed to the car to open via CA (by your touch) and to start without key in dash slot. A car will ONLY permit TWO CA keys to be active at any one time. If you buy a CA replacement, BMW NA must give you the next key coded in a list of 10 keys already programmed into your CAS module, the 'lost' key is deprogrammed from the CAS and the replacement key is activated in the CAS. This programming does require special equipment to accomplish.

When you buy a key for your car, the hard key needs to match the physical locks in the car, too, in addition to the electronic function.
I bought a new CA key from BMW for my E93 and as Wilt says it comes programmed for your VIN with the correct metal key blade. I activated it before disabling the old (lost) key. All wonderful but in non-CA mode.

I have now disabled the lost key using ISTA+ so I only have one key working in CA mode. Does anyone know the procedure to persuade the CAS to make the new key 3 function in CA mode now that I have disabled the old one?

There is no special coding required.

There are 3 key types - '2'=Transponder (plastic key) '4'=Remote Key '5'=CA Key

Each key has a Key Number 1-10 (some jobs use displacement so 0-9). The CA module will only recognize the two CA keys with the lowest key numbers that are enabled. Any CA key with a key number higher than 2 other enabled CA keys will work as a Remote Key.

Check that there are not 2 enabled type '5' keys with lower key numbers than your new key. And make sure that your new key is actually a CA key by ensuring that the key type is '5'.

Thanks Mashman. I put the new key in the dash slot and it does now work for CA functions. I am not clear if an overnight car powerdown made it work or because I put the key in the slot. Anyway, it is now working now that I have disabled the lost key.
