It's my favorite part about the car. Makes it feel so much more solid and like a tank.

I miss it from my E92. When I first got the car from my Cadillac I thought I would hate it. Grew very fond of it actually.

I see this posted all the time and I wish people would replace it with "due to the way BMW designed it". BMW can change that decision any time they want. AND, they might be able to do it with nothing more than software (if they so chose).

it doesn't matter whether it's electric or not - they CHOSE to overboost it. Electric steering can be done properly, and hydraulic steering can be totally botched. E46s had overboosted hydraulic power steering for a while to. So does every Ford cargo van...

Never noticed it being heavy.
My last two cars were M3s.

And if you want light, F30.
Drove a few for about 30 days while my car was down. YUCK!!!

I love the heavy steering feel but sometimes I do miss not being able to turn the wheel with the palm of my hand while looking back and going reverse....

I love the heavier steering. It actually lets you feel the road. Electronic steering is just not for me. Real cars and drivers don't need assistance.

Heavy steering can also be caused by low air pressure in ur tires. Mine feels heavy but I'm sure it's got heavier throughout the years. After 9 yrs could be lower control arms, or shocks not to mention PS pump. Cheers!

I'm with the love it crowd. I have always had Honda and Toyota and when the dealer asked me how the test drive was I had this huge grin on my face and said "I'm pretty sure that's how a car is supposed to feel"

Mine is overly heavy, Ive read about the lower steering input shaft binding (also known as the U-joint I believe) and becoming hard to turn. My steering wheel is basically is twice as heavy as everyones here. The pump is working fine so not much else really even makes sense

To update this, after a long time of driving the 335i, the heavy steering became a trait I very much liked. It actually felt like I had much more control of the car, and made the car feel more precise.

You hurt your hand from doing a k turn? Did you happen to run it over?! How does a steering wheel hurt your hand?

A good way to check: while parked, pop your hood, windows down, and while engine is idling, turn the steering wheel all the way right and then left. Listen attentively to any unusually loud whining sounds coming from the engine bay while you're turning the steering wheel.
I get a wisssh sound when i do a full steering lock left or right when the car is idling, is this a problem? i thought it was normal.

Thanks..

You know the steering does feel a little tougher than other cars I've had, but definitely none of them handled like this one.

What I do have trouble with that I'm unsure of if its normal or not is when I fully turn the car in either direction, left or right, it feels likes it rubbing and isn't smooth at all. What I mean but isn't smooth is that the tires feel as if they are rubbing on the inside of the fender liners or something. Car never had an accident, stock springs, xdrive, rims are rial salerno 17x8 no spacers. I had the same issue on the 193's when they were on. Doesn't feel right. Honestly I would love for someone to take a ride for me in the car and tell me I'm crazy and thats normal after I pinpoint to them in the car what I'm hearing. Never took an 2011 e9x for a drive prior to mine currently.

I have a heavy steering wheel feel, and i don't find it difficult to make turns with the palm of my hands... In fact, I have no difficulties at all with it. Got to love the heavy steering wheel. Gives you the feeling that you have much more control...
