HPFP Helix Overdrive issue

So I wanted run e85 without doing all the other crap (port injection etc) so Ken/Steven with Wedge told me to go with Helix Overdrive.
The install wasnt bad at all and there were no surprises. But when the vehicle is on at idle, if you have the windows down, you can hear this making an awful mechanical noise. Steven said to raise the idle rpms to 750, which I have done and am not to crazy about it because it looses that awesome deep idle due to my PE.
Regardless, it still occasionally rears its ugly head and usually when I am in line at a drive through and its obnoxious. Performance wise there is ZERO issues, which I am thankful for. But has anyone found a solution to this?

I've heard a few people talk about the Helix making noise.

Id imagine aside from a full redesign, its the price you pay to enjoy DI only capability.

It's just a planetary gear overdrive unit..........because of how the gears are cut, they are going to make noise. They use them on all kinds of industrial types of equipment.....I think they are made to be strong, not quiet.

This is interesting to know as I'm at the point that I can't achieve any higher numbers without something to push my hpfp numbers. So I've been eyeing this device recently. My question to the op is with dci, dp's with the increased sound of the turbos and a tial bov, how much louder is it? With power comes noise and as the power increases. I've found myself accepting of the increase of noise as the pedal is more satisfying with every mod. But how much gear noise is there. Any chance you could post some quick videos of idling and inside the cabin at normal speeds? Also, did you get the 4X or the 3X?

Thanks

Find a heat blanket and wrap it. I don't know if this is a good or bad idea as it might just trap heat and burn up the pump or increase fuel temps. But do it for science!
If I am stupid for thinking this please let me know?

If it sounded like a gear drive or massive supercharger whine....that would be pretty cool 😁

I have been asked this several times by friends etc about showing a video. I will work on that in the coming days. You can hear it at idle with the windows down, thats it. Which one did i get? I got the best one, so i guess the 4x? lol

Have you contacted Helix? That's odd....gear noise should be consistent. That almost sounds like a bad bearing or something.

Can you take a video?

Ok so i sent Spool the video at the same time i posted it on youtube. Aja called me from Spool and let me know that the device is fine and many people have been calling in about the exact issue I am having : inconsistent loud mechanical noise at idle. He said that one company has finally figured out how to get rid of that noise on the tuning side. He assured me that mechanically it is fine and nothing is wrong. He also told me that he would be contacting Ken with Wedge Performance and let him know about the tuning that will need to be done to address this. I have been very pleased with the customer service from both Wedge and Spool. ill let you guys know what happens and if this is resolved once I get the new flash in attempt to address the noise.

Oh I know tell me about it! I am building a "sleeper" and all this does is get attention at a stop light.
