Accidentally left key fob in jean pocket during laundry
I accidentally left my key fob in my jean pocket this morning and washed it in the washing machine. So far everything works just fine.
Should I be concern that any long term damage has been done to the key fob with water getting into the inside? For a 9 year old key fob I was surprised how durable it was! |

I've washed one of my comfort access keys twice. Both times I pulled the battery and let it dry. Zero issues either time. I wouldn't recommend washing them, but they seem to be able to survive it.

It's been 48 hours and there has been no issues with my key fob after using it these last 2 days after driving 300+ miles. I'll be sure to check pockets before doing laundry again in the future.

After owning the car for 12 years I finally managed to throw my jeans in the wash without removing my key fob and they stayed in the washing machine all night to add insult to injury.
I left it out to dry on my desk, put it in a bag with rice, even put it in the sun to no avail. Finally I searched this forum to learn how to take it apart and try changing the battery and make it easier for any moisture to evaporate and it seems you can't without breaking or cutting it and the battery is soldered on. I thought I'd see if the key fob would at least start the car and see if a bit of a charge while in the dock would help and that seemed to be the ticket and everything is working as before. Hopefully all the moisture evaporated and it will be another 12 years before I wash the fob again plus I still have the second fob my wife keeps but never uses. |

I thought the fobs with rechargeable batteries are completely sealed? The two halves were ultrasonically sealed with a waterproof membrane under the buttons?
Just remove the physical key and blow dry? |

This method works for most 'wet' electronic equipment:
1. Open it up as much as you can. 2. Turn on oven light, but not oven. 3. Put equipment in oven and 'bake' for as long as it takes. 4. Interior oven temp will stabilize in the high 90's, which will not hurt electronics. |

Haha I love these fobs. I dropped it so many times. Still looks like the same one in the 2006 330i commercial with the freckled chick

This is interesting. They highlighted the manual gearshift many times and not once showed the screen for the infotainment system. What a contrast to today!
