Vargas stage 2 or Chinese 17t

Hey guys, not really a question as to which is the better product obviously. But I would appreciate some opinions on both and some insight on which to get. The Vargas turbos come out to around 2000 without inlets outlets or the turbo install kit. Whereas the knock offs are 900 on Amazon. I've seen a fair amount of good reviews on both products but am curious if you guys think the 1100 difference is worth the risk. Try to keep in mind that im in school and don't make very much money.

The car is a FBO 08 and ive done everything except for injectors (I have index 7's that seem to be running strong).

Thanks guys !!

Theres an Australian youtuber who is doing a build right now with the chinese 17t turbos. Actually installing them right now. Not sure if he finished installing them yet.

Channel name is "Zero to 60" i think

Are you going to be installing them yourself? If you are, would you mind doing the labor of pulling and installing turbos several times if things go wrong? Broke college student with an N54 is going to sink you further down in debt if you aren't working on it yourself.

No I will be doing all the work myself, I figure worst case they blow prematurely and then I put the stockers back in with upgraded parts and renewed wgs and I'm out 900$. No fun but maybe I'd learn a lesson lol

IMO I would email Rob at RB Turbo and speak to him about your budget. He gives amazing discounts for paying cash and the quality and support you'll get from him is far superior to VTT and definitely the EBay 17t turbos.

Vargas , i dont think its a good idea to get an unknown brand for a new turbo.

Its not worth the hassle with fitment and the labor time/cost in case the kit fails

Jesus christ. If that is all you can afford. Leave the stock turbos on.
Neither are worth the money. Seen plenty of vargas turbos blow and the fact youre considering chinese turbos is why these cars are worthless. Broke owners who put mods before maintenance and then everyone thinks these cars are full of problems.

Check out Pure or RB turbo for their solutions.

VTT is trash

I don't trust the cheap china turbos but if you buy them have them balanced in the states. After being balanced I would then only consider installing them if the labor was mine.

Couldn't agree more.

The VTT GC's, Steamspeed and Tomioka are all the same IMO.

VTT stage 1-2, DAW's lineup and Amazon/Ebay 17t and 19t are the same as well.. IMO

Do yourself a favor and go with RB Turbo or Pure.

I'm not asking if they are worth the money, I've looked at every review there is about both of these turbos and I understand what they are. I want to know if the 1100$ saved is worth the risk. If you would've read my post you would've seen ALL of the maintenance is done.

Unless anyone has a used set of RB's or Pures I'd prefer if we just keep them out of this post, I know they are by far better than both of these options but they are just too much for me.

Then buy the china turbos, have them balanced in the states, and install. Probably your best option.

you cant say ebay or china on bmw websites

if you arent willing to spend what your car blue books for on mods you cant be accepted into the cult

you have to just buy and run them without asking anyone

check the threads on sp oo l stre et and you can see data on 16/17t and the most recent 19t

If getting a decent set of upgraded twins is too much money then why is throwing money away on junk not? Save up a bit more and do it right or leave it stock. Youre asking for trouble with chinese and headaches with vargas.

Youve been given answers on what the consensus is on these two options. However it doesnt seem that is what you really wanted. You want someone to tell you to go ahead and get them. Since that is what you want to hear. Go ahead it is your car but dont come on here after they blow up in a month and you cant get your money back from the chinese company or vargas tells you that you installed them wrong and its your fault they blew up. Either way youre out 900-2000$ plus install kit and a day of time installing them.

That depends on how much power you want to make,

You can get RB's for 1.5k to 2.5k with inlets and uprated Wastegates.

👍

How much power do you want realistically?

https://www.rbturbo.com/products/335i/335i

You can get TD03 ones uprated for reasonable price.

Personally wouldn't risk wasting time and money with Chinese ones.

Soon as I can afford it, I hope to get RB's don't need crazy power 400-450whp would be enough for me
