N55 AR 4" Catless Downpipe Fuel Smell? Is It That Bad?

Ok so I haven't installed my AR 4" Catless Downpipe yet, but from what I've been reading from other members is that I am getting mixed information about the fuel smell at idle as some have it worse than others and others don't have the smell. I understand the gains of the having the CDP installed and would like to hear from you if the smell is really that bad. If I do have it installed, is it better to run on the stock exhaust so the smell won't be as bad? Also since my wife is pregnant, her nose sensitivity is higher than normal so I'm trying to avoid getting on her bad side....lol

Depends what you define as bad.

It is noticeable.

If your running the AR CDP, you are essentially Cat free right? What I'm driving at is that the N55 doesn't have any other cats other than what is on the DP right? I think I recall seeing the Xi with 2nd cats in a thread a while back, but not sure if that was confirmed as cats or just resonators...
Anyway, what I'm driving at is that even with a stock exhaust (if no secondary cats exist on it) will smell just as bad as an aftermarket exhaust with the AR CDP. There is no secondary filter (cat) to remove the smell... Hopefully someone can chime in though who has this or a similar setup to let us know.

Bad as in being on idle with the front windows down on a red light and smelling fuel.

But if you must, buy these for now

No, they work, they're just expensive. like 8 bucks a bottle. I love going to the racetracks and smelling these. Maybe you could start off with half a bottle per fill up.

Hmm ok so I assume it's safe to put this in your gas tank? Are these available only online or can they be purchased at Pep Boys or Kragen?

Yeah thanks for the heads up keik! I read your post about the smell and I don't want that to happen to me. I believe you had a Vishnu DP right? Does it matter if it's Vishnu, AR or any other manufacturer? Was it the kind of fuel smell that when a bus passes by and your standing outside next to it or your windows are rolled down in your car? I'm still not 100% on getting this installed.

it will smell with catless DP.
it'll throw a code (there's a fix for that)
if u have a sensitive nose, at idle you'll smell it. (windows up / ac on will shield it.)
driving u'll hardly notice -
like ernie said - u get use to it.

- xi n55 have 2ndary cats on mid pipe. primary cat on the DP.
- i n55 both cats are stuff'd on the DP.

u can get single catted DP if u don't want catless - that'll take
care of the smell.

Thanks for the info Frankie! Now, do you have any advice on having the catless dp installed and taking the car in for the complimentary service to the dealer? Will they flag the CT connected to the OBD2 set to auto deleting the error code? Btw I bought my car at Crevier as I am not sure how strict they are with having mods.

that's the thing right there -
u can't easily remove the DP -

just have a good relationship with ur SA - know ur tech.
have the CT on there, there are some dealers that will be cool.
make sure ur tune is out as always...
that's a tough call, i'll pm you.
there's always a risk.

I don't have a vishnu catless dp, though I have heard from others the smell is an annoyance. I need to make a trip out to LTBMW and smell a car that has a catless dp.
