2E8E IBS, Communication

Hello,
I scan my car and get this code with no apparent side effects. After my car sits for a few days the battery always struggles to start it up and after one start it always starts quickly and easily. It's a fairly new battery so I figure I might as well replace IBS as that may be a factor.

Regardless, I get a new IBS from the dealership. The new part is updated and looks a bit different. Requires an adaptor harness to fit. I install everything, clear codes and run a full scan again and come up with the same error code: 2E8E.

After replacing the IBS itself, anyone have any idea on what could be causing this? By the way, don't lose the nut for the negative battery cable.

Thanks,
Simon

There is most likely something wrong with the BSD line going to the alternator/DME. The Bit Serial Data line is the comm line used for communication between the DME, alternator, and IBS sensor.

Check to make sure there are no shorts along that line.

Thank you for the tip! Is small blue connector with two wires running back? Or the larger connector that goes in the (what I think is the) battery safety terminal?

It's the 2-wire harness. The larger connector going to the battery distribution panel powers the IBS sensor.

Excellent. Thanks for the tips. It's hot as hell in here Atlanta lately, when/if it cools down a bit I'll take a look at it.
