Any aftermarket FMIC is better than stock. But I would also look into a oil cooler as well... VK or AR have oil coolers available.

Any IC will do. The way to stop this is upgrading ur oil cooler. or stop racing so much

FMIC upgrade really won't help you. You either need an oil cooler or a tune that adjusts boost based on oil temp (which prevents temp from ever going so high).

This is the first summer that 15psi tunes are the norm... Even on stock cars. There are going to be a lot of problems like this. Which is why we put everything else on hold until we added oil temp protection to the PROcede. Sorry for the plug but these are just the facts.

But after an oil cooler and (preferably a smarter tune), the Helix fmic is a great choice.

shiv

No oil cooler is not good when you like to race...FMIC will help but you need to get an oil cooler retrofit into there, and also a tune which prevents this!

Look for a heat exchanger in the passenger front fender or oil lines directly ahead of the oil filter housing on the front of the motor.

That isn't a heatsoak problem that is a high temperature problem. He needs an oil cooler for summertime. Your intercooler just helps you not lose boost at high temps.

Ah then I would look into an aftermarket one (don't think you have the OEM one) there are some nice ones out there

If your car is a manual you will have one, only the early AT didn't come with one.

The JB3 is doing exactly what it should do from a safety perspective, reducing boost under extreme temperatures. OP should consider a physical cooling upgrade like an intercooler.

Mike,

How does the JB3 know the engine oil temp which was well beyond typical operating levels? That is the problem in this case. Not intake are temp (which is the only temp the jb3 can see). And intake temp has virtually no direct relationship with oil temp.

Early (prior to about May 2007) ATs (steps) even WITH ZSP did not have them. If you have a pic of the oil temp gauge being 280+, BMW-NA might still approve a factory OC install. But its doubtful. I got one in april of 08...and they kind of cut back then.

While I agree the ICs are beneficial, I would not put them in the category as 'physical cooling'. They only accomplish a cooling of the intake charge. Probably won't have much benefit to reducing thermal limits of the factory water cooling.
