Removing & Replacing Turbo's on the 335i
Quickie, has anyone had this done and if so could you post up the labour time's that have been quoted/done, I'm having these done now and there does to a degree seem to be a bit of variance re figures.
From where I'm standing and looking at the work(very involved) seen so far one thins for certain, this is no 320d to do. Thanks for reading Steve |

Sytner had my car for 3 days to remove and replace - they claim they had to remove the engine and the transmission from the car, but I'm not entirely convinced I believe them...

I got quoted 8 hrs and then the garage had the car for 2 weeks. The turbos got rebuilt and then a weld was cracked when I picked the car up. A different garage had the turbos off sent away, rebuilt, sent abck and car ready to pick up within 3 days!
I was told that the engine, transmition, steering rack and lots of other stuff needs to come out to get both turbos off. |

It's 88aw's to remove/ refit then another 4aw's for waste gate setup.
All in around 10 hour job. Engine does not get removed or transmission. Subframe and steering rack are removed for access and ideally vehicle should have a KDS done after the job. |

Thing is I work for a BMW Indy and have seen more than one time quoted For instance on the commercially available AutoData screen thy quote remove/replace both turbo at 9.35 hours(I doubted that from the word go) I have access to BMW TIS system seems hat on various versions I'm seeing different tomes ranging from 22.4 hours to around 17 as quoted by Yoro35i, personally I think this is no 10 hour job, it's IMO opinion a longer job from what I can see, I'll have some photos of the strip down/turbo and oil saturated ancillaries soon but one things for certain it's tight, not easy and isn't for the faint hearted, I've got a unlimited claim warranty to the value of the car (but not BMW warranty) I just hope they're clued up regarding what pig the job is, but one things for sure this is no 320d to do which for us is a breeze. |

Steve, I work at a main dealer and have seen the Job done a couple times. BMW book time isn't great and even one of our most experienced guys takes about 2 days to do this.

But cheers for the heads up, I'm going to try and get something lined up to prove to the warranty company if I need it that 22 or so hours isn't a figment of my imagination |

super quick but I'm stunned re the time you've quoted Darren Woods can do this job in. I'm sure people who do it day in day out will be able to do it quicker than we can(we can clear a 320d for instance in less than 4 hours including oil change) only because access is good and we do so many but the 335 is a way more obstructive beast.

I'm quoting how long they took to do mine (oem). They have done idnans RB turbos too plus numerous others.

wow that is impressive Phil, they must have it down to a tee, I work with 2BMW dealers in terms of getting parts I've asked them to check with their service departments re times and to be fair if you take an average of they are saying we are hovering on or around 20 hours or 2-3 day mark

I do everything myself too now but would probably pull the engine as you have to remove the steering rack/subframe anyway and even then there isn't much room to work in. I say engine out and 15 hours is a fair amount of time (even though Darren Wood did mine in less). |
