Does anyone know how to get a Progman update in this country?
I was at my local dealer today talking to my SA about getting v.25. Problem is that apparently BMW Canada does not recognize any of the TSB's issued in the US relating to updates. He said that unless BMW specifically notes a "problem" under the VIN of my particular car, he can't do an update.
So I pointed out the problem I have with my CD still spinning after turning off the car and locking the doors which was fixed in v.22. He said that they would then pull out my indash cd player, send it for repairs and in the meantime put somebody else's unit into my car while I wait for my "repaired" unit to return. Then when that obviously won't work, they'd have him pull other parts of the audio system apart...instead of a simple update. Speaking of the update procedure itself, I was told they don't maintain computers capable of doing it on the service floor, instead they have to request from BMW that they be sent a computer for that one time, and download it from the internet, provided the thing doesn't crash overnight. I'm totally disgusted now that BMW Canada ignores problems that have been recognized by BMW North America (USA), for effectively the same batch of cars which we paid more for. Prior to writing this it occurred to me that when I picked up my car last August, I couldn't get the oem alarm installed cause it was incompatible with my system. So I just left a message with my SA asking if I wanted to have the alarm installed now, wouldn't that force them to update the car, or did they come up with a part to circumvent the process and still get it to work...

Update!
Alright, I left that message with my SA about the alarm and stuff. The service manager called me back and we discussed the particulars, he said since my car is within the affected range, I'd get the latest Progman update as a side-effect of having an alarm installed So I'm going to schedule an appointment sometime over the next two weeks and see how it goes!

Hasn't changed much, I tried the lamp thing but I think the damage is too deep for the plastic to correct itself. It was worth a shot though.
So I asked parts dept. today about getting an M-sport front bumper only without the whole kit and was shocked at the pricing. If I were to buy the whole kit, including foglights, mounting accessories, etc... it would be CAD$1750. But just buying the front bumper alone would be around $736, plus $210 EACH for foglights, plus the mesh, plus any kind of mounting hardware and whatnot. Then the labour to paint and install. So now I'm talking to Mike@MWDesign about getting a pre-painted ACS front lip spoiler shipped over, then I just need to have it installed locally.

Oops, didn't notice your post 10 days ago Snecro. No not yet, given that I only have one shot, I've been worried about the mistakes BMW has been making with the latest few versions, or rather incremental versions, it's a bit disconcerting to hear that they've been patching things up every 1-2 weeks so I'm waiting on a more stable build. Plus I wouldn't mind having it done when they offer a limited-time special on the alarm, 700+ is still a bit steep

As far as we can tell, it's not possible short of having BMW plug into your car with one of their computers. There are a few little things here and there that may give away the version, but it's far from accurate. For example, versions 20 and 21 are incompatible with the oem alarm, version 25 has the graphical overhaul and includes POI search functionality among other things.

I'm debating whether it is worth making a big stink at my dealer and trying to get the v25 update...I'm particularly annoyed with the slow speed. What dealer are you dealing with btw? thanks

BMW Autohaus on Steeles between Yonge & Bathurst. Good luck trying to get them to perform an update, it's worse than pulling a mouthful of teeth! If you do however manage to get it done at another dealer, please let me know.
