2006 330xi n53 water pump removal HELP??

All,

I have been searching the forum and online for videos or write ups on how to do a water pump and thermostat replacement. I cant seem to find one for the AWD n52 models. Most videos I saw was for a n54, n52 RWDs, etc... Can anyone with information on this help me. I dove under the car and notices that its not the same as the N54. seems to have less space and I can't find information on a DIY for this. Help please. Can anyone point me in the right direction for information via video or writes on this??

Thank you in advance...

Should be the same procedure as the N52.

How did you get an N53 in the United States?

Hi,

I cant find a DIY video with the AWD model... Looks different from the RWD models... I'm hoping its nothing crazy as in dropping the subframe to remove water pump and thermo... I'll try and post a picture. thank you for responding.

Whatever, just drop the sway bar and you'll have plenty of access.

Pretty sure if you're in Hawaii you have an N52 but if you do have an n53 it shouldn't matter much either way. The water pump seems to be a bit lower on the engine on the n53 than n54 but shouldn't be a big deal.

When we've done pumps on xdrive cars you always have to basically become one with the radiator and come in between your front bumper and the front of the subframe and you're literally facing the pump. No need to drop subframe, maybe you'll need to unbolt the sway bar but no big deal. After that it's just fiddling around with swivel joints and small ratchets.

I'd follow an awd n52 diy video if there even is one that's actually a diy instead of some clown sitting next to the car talking about what he did..

I posted pictures. The sway bar is different from my other 335i n54 model. I'm guessing because its an ix model... hope this helps.

Thanks

The xdrive subframe is basically a massive square which has everything mounted on top. We did loosen the sway bar for a bit more room since it can be done from the front

Thank you for replying. I'll post up if I run into any issues. I'm hoping it will be as easy as my N45 335i.

Dropping the subframe really isn't that big of a deal - IIRC when doing this on my 2011 N55 it made it very easy...

Yes I realize it's a different car, just putting my vote in for consideration of "drop the subframe and make it easier for yourself."

Check this video for dropping the subframe. I wouldn't go to all that work for a water pump, personally. Move the swaybar out of the way and get on with it. It's tight but doable.

I pulled the radiator fan assembly out and dropped the sway bar in the front. Don't take the links off it gets it plenty out of the way. going through the passenger fender liner and you can get at the hose clamps. It's a pain but doable.

N53 was the direct injected version of the N52 only released in Europe.
