I just installed an alcantara covered base wheel into my E90 and love it. It has a grip diameter slightly larger than the e90 sport wheel and feels great. Please forgive the filth on my floor mats...it is still nasty weather here in Buffalo.
Oh my car already had the heated package so I only needed to find a wheel that had the heated function inside and it was plug and play.

Since my previous posting here I updated that SSG/SMG steering wheel to a LCI style DCT paddle shiftr Z4 E89 wheel. The DCT wheel has an updated softer grip which I prefer.

Here is another look with the stainless steel pedals in the background below the steering wheel.

It is a great upgrade that makes you feel like you driving a $50,000 sports sedan and not some Eastern European taxi cab!

If OP wants to dabble into retrofitting it and make everything work, he runs the risk of voiding his new warranty if he f**ks up. Not worth it for just a meh looking steering wheel but who knows, it might not be as difficult as I think it is.
Basic multiplexing and microprocessor controlled buttons? Meeeh. That's not to dificult mate, just read up on the individual chips.

But why not change your wheel to a E90 M-Sport wheel. Way more sexy then the F30

Been searching for a way to upgrade my e90 standard heated wheel and I'd love to find a way to retro fit an F wheel on there. After reading this entire thread I do like the E89 direct plug and play as well.
Anyways, did anyone ever retrofit an F wheel onto an E90?

Old thread, but did anyone attempt to do a retrofit? From what I can tell, the splines match up. You need an adapter for the steering wheel buttons to work.
Based on install guides, it seems you need power, ground, can high/low, and another wire (haven't traced what wires are what in the fem for the f-series cars).
Not sure if the airbags will work/the same, but I assume a f30 airbag would be a dual stage in the US.
Before spending tons of money, I'd like as much feedback, ideas, or really any thoughts.
Cars old, new things look modern, and I'm pretty much staring at my steering in front of me daily.. would love a modern looking upgrade.

You can't fit an F wheel into an E car.
However you have a full range of choices from other E generation sports package cars such as the X1, X3, X5, X6 E60 5 series, Z series and all the M cars from the same period.

Below I have the heated sport package E89 Z4 steering wheel in my E90 sedan. Everything is plug and play from buttons, to heating element to shift paddles.
