Requesting Oil Lab Results from Highly tuned cars
Hello guys,
Have anyone of you had an Oil analyzed from your highly tuned 335i? How was your Chromium level, how have the piston rings held up? Or could you just post up your results? Here is mine first Thanks |

Here's mine from about 12k ago, FBO(+ stage 1 turbos) stage 2+ MHD. Will be doing another one shortly after my track day on the 27th, it will be running E50 mix.
EDIT: Have been tuned(stage 1) since 120k. Stage 2+ and FBO since 140k. |

Thank you for the feedback! I always baby my car when it's cold and only go wot when the oil is certainly warm enough. Most of my values look great, to be honest, the only exceptions are Chromium and Molybdenum which indicate piston ring wear. There is only one thing I can think of, I once let my buddy drive my car, and he lugged the engine.... 4th gear 1500rpm like twice. Full load at that rpm would put a huge force on the cylinder wall, that's what I can think of considering how low other values are.

I don't think I am "highly tuned" but I am FBO, 3.5bar MAP, stage 2+ at 22psi+. 98,000 miles, modded pretty much since day one with the PPK tune, exhaust, etc. I am sure I have a more recent one, but this is the one I found first.

"Highly tuned" has little to do with engine wear that mostly depends on how engine is being utilized. This tread is silly.

I dunno it just says synthetic 5W30. I doubt it is M1 though looking at the viscosity.

I mean I have used and tested T6, it does okay. I don't really get the hype over it though, lot of parrots online I guess.

I'm not saying T6 is bad, but there are better oils for sure at that price point and others. And in any oil discussion you will have a crap ton of people hyping T6. Most of whom who have never had it tested in their vehicle. Adn to be clear, IMO, what oil you run is far less important than how often you change it. Better oil just allows you to push it a bit more.

It's ~$11/gallon on rebate and BITOG has shown more than a few 8K+ mile UOAs that were showing low wear, low shear, low/no fuel contamination, and plenty of TBN. Seems to be the trend and not surprisingly so given that it's an HD "diesel oil", after all.
Either way, most any "synthetic" oil should return good results after a ~5K OCI on this platform; especially in your case where you're adding an extra quart of makeup oil lol typical of most burn-prone M1 synthetics. Run it for more than 8K and report back. Don't get me wrong, I stock up on M1 0w-40 when it goes on deep discount, but only choose to run it in N/A motors that are relatively easy on oil (Rx300, RX330, RX350, etc.), but to put it in a turbo motor under the same OCI regimen likely wouldn't end well. |

I don't mess with rebates and I would never run any oil for 8k in anything. All I know is that I ran T6, tested it, and it did worse than M1. Was it bad? No, but on average over a few tests, it did have a pretty good reduction in viscosity after a 3000 mile run.

^+this! Edge and M1 will most likely require more frequent top offs vs T6 that will throw any oil lab test out the window. I have bought T6 for $5 a gallon. 0w-40 grade. Deal that can't be beat. I'm surprised that we have these threads and they keep going Highly tuned n54 that is a garage queen and see few thousand miles per year and stock or relatively stock n54 that is beaten on regular bases?

I drive my car literally every day but short commutes, maybe 30 miles max. I have also covered probably over 50 track days. I change the oil frequently and have tried most of the oils out there. Edge and M1 require top of even when driven easy on the street. T6 so far has none, only after few track days which is to be expected. Of course, results will vary, but considering T6 was designed for HD and in for engines that have 50k interval, I'm sure with will do better than the other two. Maybe you saw with your engine drops quicker at 3k miles, but what would happen when you compare these oils at 10k ? You don't know. This is why I don't like these threads. They are kind of pointless.
